Rather play well than win things.

Feel better to come off the course knowning I played my best than to walk off the course knowning i've won due to everyone else play rubbish even tho only 1 over the HC

Actually, this would be my serious answer.

Winning is a nice bonus, but I'd rather beat myself.

1st is everything. 2nd is nowhere.

Playing -1 is knack all use if everyone else has just shot 2 or 3 under their h/c because of conditions.

Do you think US Open winners at +2 thought, "yeah, but I'm over par..."?

If you have managed to win with 1 over your handicap then there must be a reason why nodody in the field beat their handicap ie. wet, windy etc. Therefore a score of 1 over in tough conditions is not necessarily a bad score

You missed option 3 Bob,
#3: Bomb it 50 yards past your opponent into the trees and lose to a dog license.

To be honest, Id rather take the 1 under handicap, a cut is a cut!.

My goal this year is to get cut further so my initial reaction was 'B', but picking the bones out of the question, if I won at 1 over then it must have been tough conditions, especially in stableford, so in my own mind I've played well and will allow myself this trophy :p

Being +1 on your handicap isn't exactly a bad day on the course. It's a reflection that youve played solid steady golf and it's managed to win a comp too.

Playing under your handicap is always a bonus and fills you with confidence!

I'd get more confidence out of being -4 than winner the comp with a +1 though but winning a comp is winning a comp!

I'd rather win with a score over handicap. Lets face it if you've won with a score like that then it must have been a pretty horrendous day and you must have played well to get so close to your handicap. The wonders of CSS.

At the moment I would be happier to win, even if the score was not what I would aspire to. My approach would be that I had ground out a score on a day when everyone struggled - hence the winning total.

Beating my handicap is all i'm thinking about on the first tee anyway. Cant win these stablefords against the higher h/cs anyway so best just to concentrate on my own game. Anytime i've beaten my h/c is a good day whether I win or not

Bob said you finished 4th but 1 under h/c :D where did you get everyone shooting 2/3 under h/c ?

I honestly cant believe that for the sake of 2 shots some people would settle for 4th instead of 1st

I believe we are all steely-eyed competitive people underneath the British 'i'm happy to play to my handicap' bull - we just don't like to admit it.
