Managed to get a free 4 ball at any De Vere course of my choice. Which one though? What's the Norfolk one like as that's reasonably close to me in Essex.
That'll be Dunston Hall , not far from me if you need company
Its a nice enough course , bit short in places but the last 4 holes are superb. Its a holiday course really but its usually worth a visit once a year. Quite a few holes have water in play and a few blind shots too but if its free then theres no worries tbh.
I usually get a free round voucher with my golf insurance policy and have a bash there with a mate who's a member.
Wokefield isn't great in my opinion. The front nine isn't bad but the back nine is a bit open and boring (a little like playing the Oxfordshire for want of a better example). Some good holes and it is a good test but it does also cater for a lot or corporate and society golf so rounds can be a tad slow
My brother who got the freebie 4 ball for us can also get us some stupidly cheap hotel rooms, so with that in mind could be tempted to go a little further a field and make a day/night of it.
Im a member at Oulton, Leeds which is a great course but the hotel is ridiculously expensive?!?!
If u can get cheap hotels it may be worth a look however
Should take a couple of hours tops (M11 then A1 pretty much all the way) I lived in Essex for a couple of years then moved back up here and live down the road from Belton Woods. It is a dead easy drive
Belton is ok......we went for a weekend in June, wouldnt rush back.
Slaley is superb, - Hunting Course, apart from a few holes on back 9.
Oulton Hall is quite good, and Hotel is lovely, well worth a night.
Great layout and potentially really nice course, but most of the fairways could have been classed as GUR as they weren't just a bit bare, there were huge patches where they were totally dead.
Still probably worth a knock, but I wouldn't want to build your hopes up and if you can get somewhere else then would probably suggest that.
I live about 8 miles from Carden Park and although the Nicklaus course is their signture course the Cheshire is regarded as the best by most people, stunning views and the back nine is one of the best I've played, well worth a visit. The hotel's top notch as well and is used by a lot of the top soccer teams.
I'm going over to Oulton Hall next month and have booked to play 3 days of the 4 I'm stopping there with the family..... guess the credit card will take a bashing off the missus whilst i'm on the course
