Got my AG voucher and it seems on the day I've picked (22nd May) I have a choice between Long Sutton, Axe Cliff and Minehead & West Somerset courses. Which would you choose, bearing in mind I'm a high handicap player. Oh and if anyone fancies joining me on the day drop me a PM.

Only played Minehead and thats worth going to for the pro shop alone. Absolutely rammed full of quality second hand gear. Quite open really (in terms of no ball losing rough) but a few opportunities to go OB with really interesting greens.

Played Minehead yesterday. Lots of fun! First time on a true links course though. I have a lot to learn! Started out in sweltering sunshine, next to no wind. Tee shot, perfectly straight. Lost ball. Couldn't find it anywhere. Probably in a rabbit hole.
Second hole, good tee shot leaving a wedge in to the green. Pitched short of the green and it rolled straight through, and over the back into an almost unplayable lie. Looking at Game Golf it must have been over 50 yards of roll, 75 in the air. Bugger.
After this paired up with a chap called Dave who was also a one-ball and we had a good laugh. I love this about golf!
After hole 5 or 6 the wind suddenly got up. By the back nine it was blowing over 17mph according to AccuWeather, and 7 of the 9 are straight into the prevailing wind with OOB tight down the right. Very tricky. Even keeping the ball low it was Driver, 3-wood, 5-iron just to get greenside on some of the par 4s. I'm not a big hitter by any stretch but I'd expect to be GIR on a 350-400yd par 4 assuming I hit it straight. But add to the wind the fact that it's quite a tight course, and a mis-hit brings bunkers from other holes into play and it's damn near impossible for someone of my skill level to score.
Like I say, lots of fun, but I wouldn't want to be playing comps round there on a day like yesterday!
