Hi all

Last year 8 of us went away to the Belfry for 2 days and played the PGA and Derby courses....and we'd like this to become an annual event.

We all live on the Kent/East Sussex border with half the group being around 60 yrs old and the rest of us being between 29 and 33.

Where would you suggest to go for a golf weekend (or 2 days midweek) within a few hours drive?

Handicaps range from 16-28 and we're not looking for bonkers night life, just somewhere to have a beer and giggle in the evening.

Cheers all

We recently played Princes in Sandwich and the course was fantastic. They have lodges there which are pretty nice. The course is pretty isolated so there is not much to offer with regards to nightlife.

If you are looking for the "links" experience you would not be disappointed.

My club (in East Sussex) went on a jolly to Old Thorns a few years ago for around £100-150 a head. It has an exceptional off course set-up but only the one, albeit good, course.

I'm not sure what the accommodation is like, but for courses you can't beat Woburn in the 2 hour catchment area.

Others to consider based on our GM Stay and Play rankings include East Sussex National, Goodwood, Foxhills and The Grove.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I've been to Belton Woods near Grantham for the last 5 years and it's always been good. Two 18 hole courses and you could probably do it for less than £150 per head for dinner, bed and breakfast and two rounds of golf.

Jchubs who comes on here runs a golf breaks company www.golfdaysuk.co.UK and
I'm sure they'd find you something suitable at a decent price.

(as always when I recommend them I must point out that jchubs is my step brother so I'm not totally impartial but it's still worth checking their website even if it's only to get some different ideas of where you could go)

Stock answer I always give is go to Woodhall Spa and stay in the Petwood Hotel. You will have to go a long way to beat it as a golf break.

Yourgolftravel.com normally have some good deals, I agree with HK, Woodhall Spa would be my first choice but YGT sometimes do offers to Northern France with channel crossing included.

As per above. There's plenty in northern France or Belgium within an hour or two of the tunnel terminal. GolfBreaks and Your Golf Travel both do decent deals for 1 night/2 rounds or 2 nights/3 rounds. Been many a time. Try the area around Waterloo'.

Morning all

After nailing down some dates I've got these down as the "best" options for us........this is based on day 1 being Friday 5th September (hopefully the courses will have dried out by then!)

The Belfry

1 night, 2 rounds, B&B….Derby and PGA National - £145pp

Or The Oxfordshire

1 night, 2 rounds (the same course), dinner, bed, breakfast…. £149pp

Which would you choose?

We played the Belfry last year and enjoyed it.

If it's not including the Brabazon I wouldn't go to Belfry

I'm not so concerned about the brabazon....I played the belfry twice last year and got to have a go round the brabazon. I think it would be a bit much for some of my group anyway.

Belfry £145 for B&B for the Derby course and PGA isn't that good a deal.

The Oxfordshire isn't a bad price.

Have a look at Stapleford Park Leicestershire they are doing some good deals, The course is good as well, Not too difficult.

Woodhall Spa is £175 for B&B in September but the Hotchkin might be a bit tough for some of your group if you think the Brab may be a bit much.
