Where do you sit regarding the 3 wood

I have a callaway xhot 2 and I love it, if the driver goes in a mood I hit 3 wood, almost as far and with more confidence, off the deck its superb, I can hit the odd bad one though, luckily I only use it off the deck for going at par 5s in 2, so if I mess up I can still go in 3, most cases, def one of the best clubs in the bag for me.

I've never got to grips with a normal (15 degree) 3w off the tee and certainly not off the deck, I started with a strong 13 degree 3w off the tee before stepping up to a driver, I now carry a 12* Mini-Driver that does that job and then it's my trusty 4 wood. My 4w is excellent off the tee for long par 3's, if I need it to land soft I tee it up on a blue castle for more height, if I need to drive it for more distance and run out it goes on a red castle, I have loads of confidence with it off the deck for long approach shots to the green and when I knob a drive it really gets me back up with play, it might only be a 2 degree variable than a standard 3w but in my head that's massive and I love my 4w

There's a number of courses I play locally where position off the tee is key. A three wood is a very useful weapon, providing it's working. There has to be minimum risk for me to consider taking a three wood off the depth

Before I changed teaching pros I made the huge mistake of letting me old pro sell me a 3 wood basically on a lesson.. he was banging on about this Titliest 910F 3 wood .. was selling it off for £85 as its old stock now..for me would be £75 so I said ill try on the lesson and if it produces better results than my ping G15 that I had at the time ill buy it.. to my surprise on the lesson I played outstanding with it and the shots were a nicer shape and better distance (better shaft prob played a part)

sods law soon as the lesson ended my ability with the 3 wood ended. (was always my tee off club before I spent all winter working on my driver)

today I went the range and hit 3 cracking shots with it off the deck to about 190 carry which for me is very good. If I could hit it like that all the time I would be delighted

i chose to use a Nike Vapour Speed 3 wood set to 17 Deg and i get alot of height. i always struggled with hitting it until i was told to grip it down the shaft. i now grip at the bottom of the grip, and although i lose distance i get a clean strike and a good shot alot more now.

The 3 wood is normally the longest club you'll hit off the fairway and has the least loft. No surprise that people have trouble hitting it well as they often try and hit it too hard.
Keep a steady head and a smooth swing and you'll be fine.
