I remember this was covered a few weeks back but can't exactly remember the outcome so thought I would ask my question to see if I can get an answer....

On Saturday I won the October Medal with 74-3-71 playing off an actual handicap of 2.7. Now,the CSS was 74 so that pulls me to 2.4 but I am actually 2.5 as I have a return from an event away from home held on 25/09/09 that has still not been processsed where I shot 80-3-77 CSS 72.Now I know 100% that I am due point 1 as I was handed the sheet of revisions due from the organiser as I left which I then put in the Match Sec's box at the club for him to deal with and still it hasn't been done.

As far as I am concerned when I play on Wednesday I should play off 3 not 2,playing off 2 would mean me playing off a false handicap surely....I tried to contact the MS to get things sorted but as yet I have had no reply so where do I stand...???? :D

Dodger, well done on the medal win. You should contact your h/cap secretary regarding the .1 away from home. If you can't contact him, play off 2. It might seem unfair but if you play off 3 you will be disqualified for playing off a higher handicap.

i`m with iang on this one ,u should always play off the lower h`cap if in any doubt...but i think ur actual is 2.5 playin 3 ! i think u should always look after ur h`cap and not rely on ur h`cap sec to du it

I understand where you're coming from but its the published handicap that counts and until they get round to the adjustment its 2 for you!

I thought that if you are off 2.5 and have the cards that prove you are off 2.5 then that is your handicap regardless if that MS seen them or not!

Crazy that I have to play off a false handicap because my handicap has not been correctly adjusted thro no fault of my own, golf is supposed to be self policed so surely that is what I would be doing?! :D

Not to worry I'll still take the coin off Screwback on Wednesday regardless of what I play off.....mind you if he's my partner I am sure he will tell me I am off 3.... ;)

I'm not too sure of my ground here as it has never affected me but I believe that down here in the deep south east, players with very low h/caps (?? 5 or less) have their h/caps dealt with by the county rather than individual clubs.

So, if they play in any qualifying competition, their h/cap is dealt with by the county and not their club.

Realistically, if you had a sub h/cap and sub CSS, you know that you will be cut whether or not the paperwork had gone through so you would declare that adjusted h/cap for the next round. Surely the opposite would also apply?

It's a strange one that you have to be carefull about, but it has happened to me in the past and I've always beleived that you must cut yourself before you play in another competition. The other side is that you don't take the .1 back until your card is returned. Seems very unfair but that seems to be the way it is. In other words you cant just roll up on competition day and say you played 3 comp's since last week and got .3 back, unless it was your own course where then your cards would be thee from proff.
If I was away playing in a comp and had a cut, I'd make sure that the club which I played returned my card asap. Same goes with a .1 back card.

With anyone who has a Handicap of 5 or below the club must inform the county of any changes, the club still monitors and adjusts the players handicap.

I was told by our club pro/manager that you have to put your handicap down yourself but cannot put your handicap up yourself.
