When to shout 4

What if it gets a dodgy bounce and goes towards him ? If the ball is close to the ball then shout fore instead of letting them hear the unexpected shock of hearing a ball land near them. Your explanation that you "knew" it wouldnt hit me would be met by "can you tell me the lottery numbers as well"

If you shout then people can be prepared and brace themselves for the possibility - they dont go ducking and running for cover.

I agree. If I hear a shout of 'fore' I turn away from it, crouch down and cover the back of my head with my hands. No point in running unless you actually see the ball coming at you, which is highly unlikely.

What was you drinking when you wrote the first paragraph?

I always shout 4 when my ball goes out of sight. once i rattled off a missile in someone's direction with the possibility of causing serious harm. i tried to shout "fore" but i got tongue tied and nothing come out due to shear panic :(

Which is what I do.
Unfortunately not everyone does.
A fair percentage scatter as they think the ball is coming straight at them.
Some stare at the sky in the hope of seeing the ball.
Others look around to see where the shout has come from and 'does that mean me'.

If in doubt always shout fore and let them deal with the consequences of their own actions - you cant judge what people might do if you shot fore. Just shout it and then they cant complain - you can certainly complain if you dont shout.

I have never seen people scatter when a shout of fore is heard - its always hands over head or ducking by trolley

I normally cover my head, turn my back to where I think the shout came from and then bend over. Might have a chance of catching the ball been my buttocks that way but at least nothing too valuable should get hit.

So if you definately know that the ball will miss them you would still shout fore?

Sorry but how do you know a ball will definately miss them ?

Always shout fore if its going into an area where there is a possibilities of players being in that area. If in doubt shout

better to shout and no one is hurt than to no shout and someone gets hit

yes! of course! they could be in mid swing or have a medical condition that a fright (a ball landing near them at 150mph will do that) sets off.

It's inconsiderate not to alert them.

Would you like it if it missed you by 5 feet - but it was def missing - and no-one alerted you?

I'm not that clever to judge if a ball was missing someone by 5 foot or close enough to cause them concern. In those circumstances it would not be a definite miss.
A shout of four when a ball is missing by 25 yards may also cause a golfer to have problems mid swing or a heart attack!

seriously! you believe that? a call from 200+ yds away? methinks you are taking a contrary stance now just for the sake of it. Have a nice day!

What happens if your judgement of 25 yards is poor and the ball has a dodgy bounce and the players start moving ?!

Sorry but shout fore and eliminate any possible danger then.

But a shout of fore causing a heart attack ?!?!

Shout out anytime your not sure, having been knocked out by a ball, take it from me, it hurts !! Better to be safe than sorry.

It doesn't matter if it lands 20-30 yards short, just do it and get your FC's to do the same, doesn't have to be your shot for you to shout.
