When can I justify getting custom-fitted clubs?

Well I'm glad that the consensus opinion collates rather precisely with my own thoughts on the matter. I often live by the mantra that if I am ignorant enough to not know what benefit is to be had by a technology then I certainly don't need it. Golf clubs fall into the category of goods about which I am so ignorant.

I certainly appreciate that I need some extra length on the club - is 0.5" a standard adjustment which should suit me at 6' 3" and I won't need any more lengthening.

Also, on the Wilson Staff D-Fy clubs, I see they've got a Half/Half graphite-steel shaft. How will this be lengthened properly? I think I would sooner opt for full steel shafts so is there anything at under £300 which would serve me better than the D-Fys?

As soon as you can afford it, why not?... it's only clubs and if they're suited to your swing then you only need to replace then as/when your swing changes... even if that's every 6 months you can still sell them on.

I'm in the same camp as you PendoDave. :thup: and think that the whole concept of custom fitting is a tad overrated. There are plenty of CAT1 golfers out there who have never seen a trackman.

Doesnt matter how good the custom fit is.....if a swing is wonky.....well.... it will still be wonky after the fit.
If your scrambling is rubbish....then it will still be rubbish after the fit.
If your putting is rubbish then......
If your sand play is rub......
If your chipping is r......

But you will have a shiney new driver to wave about on the tee :fore:

Bluetoon, true of TrackMan swings but having my club lengthened will surely improve my posture and my swing as I am not needing to compensate for that 'missing' length?
