What's wrong with changing shoes in a car park?

It is one of the many really stupid rules golf clubs have. If golf was starting now, instead of being loaded down with historical legacy, these idiot rules wouldn't be invented.

the rule isnt that stupid when you think about it.

From the players point of view, he's car stayed cleaner, especially after rain and a muddy course in the

From the clubs point of view,

A Crap stays on the course and not in the car park and not over their carpet should you wish to go in the clubhouse

B you need to venture in the warm welcoming place for muchies and drinks pre round and after round. increased bar/kitchen revenue is what will help keep subs low.

What will get me to spend more in the bar is a nice area that I can go into straight off the course with my shoes on. Designate an area as a spike bar and I am far more likely to have a drink after a round.

I wonder if goes back to the days of metal spikes,

Over the years no doubt that metal spikes would damage the tarmac.

but more than likely like a previous post, you would not change into swimming gear in the car park idea.

I actually think you should change in the clubhouse, on a busy day it can look a bit of a mess if there are lots changing in the carpark, plus I like to be able to wash my hands etc in the changing rooms before having a drink.

Maybe if the signs said "visitors are welcome to change in the clubhouse" it would be received better

As we leave the course, there is an air line for cleaning shoes. We don't need to treck mud across the car park, or into the club house. There is no reason why shoes can't be changed in the car park at my club.

Why does it look a mess with people changing shoes? As has already been mentioned, there are guys assembling trolleys, getting bags out of the car, sorting out wet kit, umbrellas, etc. Why is the sight of a pair of socks so offensive?

When I arrive at a course I am visiting I am often confronted with a security coded door (very welcoming), with a 10 minute walk to the pro shop (never near the car park) to get the number. If I put my shoes on in the car park, and get my kit out, I can go straight to the pro shop to pay, and then to the tee. It saves time.

I usually change my shoes in the clubhouse unless I am playing at Blackmoor where I'll change in the car park.... I know it winds Richart up and it usually means he'll blob the first couple of holes.
I need all the help I can get

;)

I thought it was because you had be banned from the clubhouse, as an undesirable. :D :D :D

I have paid for the facilities so am going to make full use of them. ;)

I don't see why it's a problem.

I do mine in the car when I arrive. It takes ten seconds as I have my laces loose so they just slip on. After that it takes about five minutes faffing about with trolley, bag, GPS holder etc... That for me is more 'untidy'

I retie my laces on the first tee while waiting for the group in front is that 'untidy' as well? ;)

A friend of mine joined a club and was not aware of the rule of changing in the car park, funny enough he did exactly that one sunday morning and before he even knew it, he had a letter come through the post giving him a warning!!! We are living in the 20th century where people dont have time to say good morning to their neighbours let alone walk to and back from the changing room!!!!!! The rules need to be more in line with the 20th century.

I don't know the reason, I could at my old club, I can't at my new one. I have no issue either way.

It does seem a bit odd that I could put a jumper on in the car park, but not my shoes though?

so is it just Ok to change shoes ? how about socks if they've got a bit soaked ? what about a fresh shirt ? The toilets are on the other side of the clubhouse, how about a pi$$ behind that bush ?

Get your lazy, uncouth backsides into the changing rooms and behave like a gentleman ;)

Westerham's car park is stones, wood chips and mud, so no problem changing shoes in the car park.

I can understand that Bratty otherwise your dappled pony might lose a shoe!

Do you take off your sombrero in the car park or changing rooms?

I'll fit right in when I come down in a couple of weeks then. Nice to see it's not too posh for a country boy like me.
