I hate Joe Cole, he's worse than playing Heskey. He can't kick a football without having to try 10 step-overs. By the time he gets the ball in the box the opportunity has normally passed. Waste of space in my book.

Why do so many people think he should play? Surely he was selected for the squad to make the coffee?

You have to say "Why not".

Bugger all else has worked has it?
Apart from the first 5 minutes against the Yanks we've been pants. Give him a go - what have we got to lose?

He's the only guy out there that has successfully played the wide left slot.

He'll give the team a bit of balance, if nothing else.

And I heard a couple of weeks ago that he might be signing for Arsenal after this, so he's obviously a much better player than he was at the end of the season.

:p

Emile Heskey...What a donkey, if he is the best we can muster then it should not come as a surprise that we cannot compete on the world stage.Trouble with us English fans is that we get swept away in the media frenzy and actually believe the hype, then when we play we always come crashing back down to earth with a massive bump and lick our wounds, sack the manager who leaves several million pounds richer and re-group for more of the same in another 4 years, meanwhile some sweatshop manufacturer of St Georges car flags has made another million or 3.
It's time to smell the roses lads, yeah let's get behind the team but we need to stop putting the pressure of 66 on their shoulders and lower our expectations to more realistic levels based upon actual ability to win against the best in the world.

I think the fact the majority of the team are on about 100K a week you would expect them to be amongst the best in the world ;)

How do you know he can make a decent cuppa?

I think Joe Cole is a class player and by not playing him makes England a poorer team.England have always choose less skillfull players, look at Tony Currie for example one of the best players to come out of England but never got the caps he deserved.

We bemoan the fact that England cant string a few passes together but if you nullify naturel talent like Joe Cole and players of his ilk, prefering workhorses, its no wonder we are so far behind other teams.

John Barnes. 79 caps that knob got for England and all on the back of 30 seconds of brilliance in a friendly against Brazil.
Total and utter waste of time.
Jeez I'm becoming a grumpy old man

how often, when we do get a skillful player, do we nullify their talent by playing them out of position in a system that stifles them?

should we always look for the best player in each position or should we look for the best 'unit'? I'm thinking Sutton and Shearer in their Blackburn days - probably the highest scoring 'unit' in their time - and how often were they played together for England?

on the same wave length smiffy, nearly got throw out of 2 pubs in brighton on new years eve a few years ago, but add on martin keown carlton palmer, ray clemence, and a few others that we could mention,
we just pick complete knobs as managers who have no ideas.
mclaren was slagged off but he could have not any worse.
coppello took too many crocked players, and trying to bring players out of retirement is beyond a joke.
i hope we get stuffed on wedenesday, because thats all we deserve. i gave up on england when le tis kept getting overlooked, the only player in the last 35 years good enough to have been in alfs squads.
the FA only want yes men and players from certain clubs. i would rather watch blackpool then these knobs, and several of them play chelsea, but you would not think so.
when we come home, most probably on the same flight as france, total rebuild of FA, manager, and team, but that will not happen, bad press for a few weeks then suck up to rooney and gerrard to inflate there egos a bit more, then a year of bullshit about us winning euros.
at least we have some good british golfers, a sport we can win at.
come on holland, best team never to have won world cup

There was a strange misconception coming into this World Cup that Capello had done well until now when in reality England struggled and stuttered through qualifying, often looking lost against smaller teams only to come out and save themselves after half time in an unconvincing matter. One good win over a Croatian team that was nothing compared to the previous campaign hid a multitude of sins and allowed Capello the excuse to keep playing his negative 4-4-1 formation (the eleventh spot going to Emile Heskey, who doesn't warrant mention in any formation).

Off the top of my head England played two "top" teams; France and Spain. France are also a faded force but England rarely troubled them and Spain made England look like lost boys as they passed it around the hapless English with ease.

Capello is no better than what came before, he merely had an easier qualifying campaign and even then it wasn't convincing.
