What's best galvin green paclite or proshell

Both offer the same level of waterproof protection but the proshell is slightly heavier so as your based in Ayrshire, it may be the better option for you if you play in the winter. The paclite is more 'summer weight'.

Got this from a Galvin Green Tech Rep when I asked them some questions..

The Paclite jackets are slightly more breathable but will require a product underneath to wick the moisture away, whereas the mesh lined jackets will be slightly warmer due to having that mesh lining in.

Hope it helps.

I was thinking that I'd prefer the short sleeve paclite jacket . Most of the time when I play golf I'm hot anyway so in winter I'd have a base layer on anyway
Being 5 ft 5" and a bit on the heavy side I always find the sleeves are too long for me

ive got the paclite, and its fine for the odd shower in summer(not that we have had any rain up here this year) winter wise i found it very cold. So i have two jackets, one for winter one summer.

Either way once or twice a year wash your Waterproofs in NikWash - Tech Wash. Its awesome stuff and seems to reinforce the waterproof layer :)

Unless you have Galvin Greens, as they suggest not using a proofing agent. The beauty of GG is that if the waterproofing goes, you send them back and they retreat them!

To the OP, GG stuff comes up snug around the waist and midriff area, so try before you buy. The next size up will have slightly longer arms!

Very true, difference is sleeve length between adjacent sizes is quite marked - I wanted a Galvin Green waterproof jacket and went to Auchterlonies in St Andrews to try on all the various styles (they had full range) - couldn't get one that fitted at all - ended up buying two Footjoy jackets instead which fit perfectly.

Just been in there this week wow what a shop!

GG do come up an athletic fit on jackets so do try before you buy. Proshell is better IMO.

Its worth looking 8at the different ranges by other manufscturers too. I own plenty of GG, and swear by them but I have been able to find both tops and trousers that fit me perfectly.

Which ever top and trousers you go for make sure you make use of the layering system its the same principle for every manufacturer.

Like others say the psclite is for warmer weather, but with lsyering you will be comfortable down to around 3 or 4 degrees, even lower if you are born and bred north of the border lol. In relstion to the water repellent coating clean them as soon as you can if they get dirty, if they are used and damp when you get in stick them in the dryer for 45 mins on alow heat, this not only dries them but helps re-align the fibres to makes the outer fabric repel the water the gore-tex stops anything finer getting through.

It might also be worth looking into getting a seperate short sleeve windshirt that fills the gap to cover all weathers.

The adidas Gore Tex two layer jacket is also a fantastic jacket which I wear on colder days and can be picked up for around £120. New style due for Autumn so if you can wait you may get it cheaper.

For warmer days I wear my GG Paclite.

I did buy the top of the range Callaway jacket and trousers last year in the Sports Direct sale, fine for light showers but disappointing in heavy rain. Probably why they were at 70% discount! Use them for washing the car now ...

Can't beat Gore Tex in my experience

I had the same dilemma couldn't decide between paclite or performance shell. In the end went for paclite and pleased I did. Firstly it's easier to swing in. It folds up nicely so easy to store in golf bag. Also if it's cold then I just layer up, after all the main reason for the purchase was to stay dry - not which one keeps me warmer. I just stick a base layer on with a polo shirt and jumper then the jacket and I'm fine.

Could you tell me how the Adidas measures up size wise against the galvin green as I had a look on clubhouse golf and I could get a full adidas suit for the price of a galvin green jacket

I like your thinking jensen , if it's that cold I'm not going to be out golfing anyway . If a base layer , polo , softshell body warmer and a waterproof can't keep me warm then it's time to call it a day
