...you started each hole playing 2, 260yds from the tee in the middle of the fairway. Par 3's excluded.

I read somewhere that when a course is assessed for SSS, they assume a scratch player would hit a tee shot 260yds and straight, then look at the hazards and difficulty from there.

I don't know if that's true or not, but it got me thinking what my handicap might be if I could do it.

I reckon about 5 or 6 for me.

What would yours be?

Ugh,Id give the game up, where is the fun in that, short off the tee and not having to try to steer one through a 2 foot gap towards the green?

Probably less than 8....... As much as you only hit a dozen or so drives in a round, if I was in play from every one of them and 260yards down I think I'd be a better golfer. My iron play is a better part of my game and it's the driving that let's me down...

I reckon that would shave a couple off for me, so down to 2.

My driving is woeful so would love to get 260yds every drive, regardless of fairway or not.

Need a few more 0.1s back before I can start bombing it like the (semi) pros!! ;)

I'd be with you Gary!
At least 5, maybe even 3 or 4.
My driving is shocking although it is improving. I hit 5 out of 6 fairways today in a quick 9 holes and the only missed one was all of 2 feet away - shot 37 (+2) for the 9 with 2 birdies. Gives you and me an idea of what I can be like if I hit fairways.

I'd benefit massively I think as I'd be taking a wedge to the green on all the par 4's at our place. This in turn would mean I'd hit more GIR which would mean more pars and possibly the odd birdie. It would probably mean less pressure to score on the par 3's as well which would probably lead to better tee shots.

Dare I say it but I reckon I could threaten single figures

Exactly the same as it is now. Apart from the bout of hooks I went through last year my driving is good. Until I sort my short game and my head out my h'cap won't change

Maybe one or two shots at the most. My driving is fairly consistent and about 230 to 240 yards. A bit of extra length is always nice but not top of my want list.

My driving lets me down big time,Im straight enough, but 210
yards is just mediocre Im affraid, its my irons that saves the day,or at best gets me there..260 yards..please god.

I can think of an ex World #1 who would give his eye teeth to be that accurate.
