It's Sunday afternoon, you're sat in your favourite armchair with your 50 in HD tv and Sky+ HD watching the golf.
As your favourite player comes down the last hole two shots clear, he hits it in the bunker. As he swings back taking the bunker shot, you see a few grains of sand moved by his club. As you have the super duper big screen in HD and you rewind it over and over to make sure, you see it but nothing is said on commentary and he goes on to win.
What would you do?
And would it be different if it was someone you didn't like and he beat your favourite player by one shot?

Chill and enjoy the game.

Too much trail by TV has already happened. The guys who have been picked up on it have not intentionally infringed the rules (Padrig etc) merely a tiny tiny fraction that makes no difference at all to their ability to score well or not on that hole.

If it were an infringement that they noticed or their partners noticed they would call it (Brian Davis style at last year's Travellers Championship)- if it were an infringement that gave them an advantage the on site team of officials, caddies, etc would call it as they would not allow them to continue unknowingly.

Part of the game is integrity so I would leave it at that.

I wouldn't get involved no matter who it was, I dont think the armchair viewer should be allowed to. If the powers that be dont see it then no problem.

No other sport allows people to call in when an incident occurs.

Sums it up perfectly IMO.

I can't believe I'm about to type this...

I agree with Pieman! :)

I'm becoming very frustrated with the whole "trial by TV" issue. I'm all for following the rules in most things I do (sometimes a little to much), but to contact the powers that be over millimetre movements and grains of sand really smacks of either sadism or lack of life!

I hope that those who do this get the same thing done to them in a weekend medal! :D

No matter if I loved or hated the player I would do absolutely nothing!

Armchair viewers have no place in refereeing any sports in my view. It undermines any credibility of the sports professionals, the people whose job it is to referee the event at the time and after and also the organisers of these events.

By all means bitch and moan about it with mates or down the club / pub but I don't think any spectator should have any influence on the outcome in this way. Next we'll have football fans awarding free kicks and penalties! Simply won't work long term.

thought they had changed the rules recently so no trial by tv, past it pros chilling on their armchairs wondering how many v-easy to reach the phone to grass them in need not worry :D

It's not the armchair viewers place to call that. They have the top officials everywhere and the players themselves would call it if they saw it so no need for anyone watching on TV to stick their nose in.

Nothing other than send HID back into the kitchen for another cuppa and a rich tea. How would the player even see a few grains move himself as he was playing the shot anyway. Leave it to those at the scene to deal with.

This for me also.

Arm chair refereeing has no place in any sport.
