So Iv posted my 3 rounds and I'm waiting back to see what my handicap is. Iv heard it works on your best card.

Any ideas ? My 3 rounds are in my sig and there based on A SSS of 66 and par is 68

Assuming round 2 is a 79 against a SSS of 66 and your best card then it will be 13 unless you had worse than a double bogey on any hole in that round

Depends a bit on the make up of your 11 over round.
If for example you had an 8 on a par 3 it would be rounded down to a 5 [+2] and you would probably be given 9 handicap.
Otherwise you will probally get 11 maybees 10.

Well done, is it your first handicap?

Current congu guideline basicall indiacate best of three rounded over SSS is intial handicap allocation well play a great starting point bring on single figures!

Clubs can also award a higher or lower handicap than the best card suggests if there are pressing reasons for doing that. I would be sitting down with the player and finding out every little detail of his playing/handicap history in view of the quality of the returned cards.

That makes sense because cards of this quality aren't you usual beginner.

This is because I had that feeling where I was not good enough to have a handicap so I have worked hard to make sure I get a reasonable handicap. Iv been playing on and off for 3 years, I would play for 6months then have 6 months off but I want to play the game all the time now and I'm willing to put all my spare time into it, not easy with the my 2 kids and the misses moaning about I don't spend time with her ;) ....lol

The front 9 on all 3 rounds have been 9 over and then on the back 9 I start playing well.

I'm going to get known as a threat hijacker as I jumped in on one last night too. Anyway I'm going to be in this same position soon. I've been pay & playing on and off for years, have just joined my first club and am trying to get some rounds in for my cards. I usually average between 13-15 over par so looks like your a similar level to me. I have no idea how it is all worked out though?

'Basically' you put your 3 signed cards in and any triple bogeys or higher are rounded down to doubles, then the sss for the course/tees you used is deducted to give your handicap for each card the BEST card is then used for intial allocation.

As I said earlier, not necessarily so. I have had two in the last week who have been allocated less than the best card suggested. Both players have had past playing/handicap history and recent society playing history. Both agreed that the joint consideration of cards and history would lead to a sensible allocation.

I've no idea how the handicap system works, I'm not a member of any club and never had a handicap, but that written my mate who I play with just had three cards in similar to the OP around the 13 - 15 over par and was given a 15 handicap.

yeah i realise and appreciate you pointing this out, i did try to cover myself by starting 'basically' for the reply it was just a quick guide and not a full explananation of the complete ins and outs

Handicaps are calculated against SSS so it should be 13, not 11.

he posted last week though that the score included an 8 on a par 4, hence the rounding.

And if you can go round the back 9 of a course 6, 4 and 2 over, there could well be such a case,

Certainly a maximum of 13, but the consistency of those cards could well rise eyebrows, specially if you suddenly went out playing in Open Handicap competitions. Wouldn't surprise me if the allocation wasn't delayed until someone had a look at your game.
