Hi all,

Quick question, my 5 iron is 26* , the next club is my 5 wood at 18*, looking to get something to bridge the gap, what would you suggest ?

Would you go for a 4 iron or something else ?

Cheers

I have a Taylormade R5 hybrid which is 22 degree. Something like that would be perfect I reckon.

Also it's such a versatile club , great for hitting out of rough and fairway bunkers believe it or not.

I remember when some of us on here went to Stoke Park and Danny Willett got us hitting hybrids from the sand. Easier than you think.

Depends on your funds.....
I have a ping g20 4 hybrid that will never leave my bag. Indeed, it's the only club that's been in it for 3 yrs! It's ugly as but I just hit it well.....

If you have a few more quid to spend then I would look at the new Titleist h1, or a ping cross over.
Try as many as you can and have fun doing so! Can't beat a new shiney's ;)

Depends on what your carry gap between these clubs is. Generally a 21 degree hybrid will fit as the most versatile option.

you need a fitting session, picking a set degree won't necessarily give you a set distance. Some people don't get along with hybrids, but thankfully there are other alternatives. 7 wood or crossover style driving irons for example. The 7 woods are great clubs.

A 4 iron for a 22hcp great advice, let's make the game harder for him

So are You saying that a high handicap golfer can't hit a 4 iron, he must be thinking about it or he wouldn't had asked about a 4 iron. If he can hit a 5 iron then he should be able to hit a 4 iron. I take it you have a bag of woods in your bag

22 degree hybrid all day. The X Hot i've got in my bag is probably my favourite club in my bag, such nice ball flight and ridiculously easy to hit. Find it so much easier to control and manipulate than my 5 iron, use it for so many different shots.

Thank you everyone for your advice, I think I will get out and try a few including a 4 iron. I don't really want to spend a lot so may just keep my eye open for something cheap that I can experiment with.

Cheers again....

What about the 7w you had of me?

I'm looking to drop my 4i from the bag as I'm not striking it consistently enough, especially when it really matters, so just waiting on the club AAC is sending me to try out.

So you're looking for something to cover around the 180 yard range???
Might I suggest 2 x 8 irons????
;)

Unfortunately not much of it left after a accident in the garage involving my kids bikes coming of their racks and onto the club mate.
