What should I buy?!!

So it's bonus season at work and I'm determined to buy something for golf. I have two items I need, a new driver and a hybrid.

My driver is now a non conforming driver and is 8 years old so I'm sure I could get something much better these days (I don't play in comps so no need to have a conforiming driver though).

I've never had a hybrid but for anything longer than a 4 iron, I have a massive gap so struggle on a couple of long par fours.

What would you buy? I'm leaning towards a driver as my course only has two long par 4 and one of those I can still reach with a 4 iron. Most of my bonus is going towards the house but I've managed to keep a little to myself.

if you dont fancy a hybrid try a 5 wood?

I fancy one, just never used one before! Are they a lot easier to hit off the turf than a wood or long iron?

Whatever you buy, make sure you get fitted. Drivers have moved on so much that you would notice a massive difference. Your distance would definetly improve, especially if fitted correctly.Hybrids are also great clubs. I play off of 4 and have 3 of them in the bag. A 2,3,and 4. They are so versatile as they can get you out of all sorts of bad lies.

For how much longer are you not going to be playing in medals or competitions?

I'd go down the new conforming driver route first of all. If you look in second hand racks you could quite comfortably get a cracking driver and hybrid for a dam fine price.

For instance someone on here sold a Ping G20 driver for £130 bucks, pick up a decent hybrid on top of that for less than £70 and thats only £200 which is cheaper than a Titleist or TaylorMade driver!!!

Its all down to budget and how often you play I would guess.

I was thinking that. Due to me moving house this year, I'm not a member of a club but after October I'll be looking to play in comps so I guess that makes sense.

Maybe if I don't tell the wife how much my bonus was I can just take out enough for both clubs!!!!

First thing that grabbed my attention was that nike driver reduced to £130. Thats only last years model.

Great bargains around if you look around. Happy shopping.

Craw has it spot on. I picked up a MP630 Fast Track Driver in mint condition (and I mean MINT - cheers Darth) on here and a TM Superfast Burner (old model but still cracking) new at AG.
Total spend on both items - £150.

I like both my hybrids which are a K15 No3 (17 degree) & No5 (22 degree), both were fitted.

The No5 is excellent out of light rough (75mm-100mm) and really sweeps it out without the head being grabbed like an iron would.

The No3 is excellent off the fairway and even off the tee for long par 3's.

However, I'm trading my No3 K15 in for a RBZ 19 degree 5 Wood as it will give me more options.
