what numbers would you put low mid high handicappers?

If one wants a simplistic , low medium high, the allocate 33% of golfers to each category
And you will find Low is circa 0 - somewhere around 15' Mid is 15 to circa 23, and high above that.
Just shows that splitting into 3 simplistic categories ain't ver helpful.

I think that anything up to 5 is low and from 6-9 is mid and anything in double figures his high and anyone over 18 has no real intention of playing the game as a sport but more of a way of getting exercise with their mates and don't bother about holding up other golfers on the course.

Hope there are no golfers at my club with this big headed attitude......wonder what your playing partners think of you???

This thread is close to the 'How far do you hit your driver' thread as being one to provoke high peeing competitions.

Golf has been setup with a Handicapping system that allows golfers of differing abilities to compete where people have differing abilities due to coordination, age, time available to practice, ability to pay for coaching and so on and so forth. To suggest that those with higher handicaps are only there because they lack interest in the game is very rude and ignorant .

Some of us are gifted in sporting ability, some are academic, musical, practical etc. Any of us can be morons.

Well I have just read the whole thread ............the most important is EYG , that's why we play the game regardless of handicap , low would be 9 and below , 10 to 18 is mid and high is 18 and above , the difference in handicap is down to talent , practice and time you have to improve your game and practice . I rather play golf with someone who enjoys the game and gives his best without going to club throwing and the rest of the red mist stuff . and everyone has the right to have their say , you don't have to agreed with it and with that you say notink so you don't cause offence , anyone of an handicap who enjoys the game is fine in my book .............................eyg

I'm A GOLFER off 20 handicap to say that I don't go out and play my golf seriously is an insult.
Some of the worst golfers for attitude and bad manners I've played with are single figure golfers.
The way I look at it 5 and under is Low, 6 to 16 is mid and 16 and above is high. I have aspirations
of being a mid handicap golfer but if I don't make it that doesn't make me any less of A GOLFER.
Anyone who takes the time to learn the rules buy the shinnys and get out onto the course and plays our
wonderful game earns the right to say they are A GOLFER.

Surely you would go with the following,as in a medal competion:

Low (Division 1) upto 12.4
Mid (Division 2) 12.5 to 18.4
High (Division 3) 18.5 to 28

im with you on this mate. I'll happily play with any other fellow competitor. Regardless of age, gender, handicap or what team they support. So long as they there to enjoy the outdoors and a great game, being able to smile at the odd mistake and appreciate the odd stoke of brilliance ;-)
