what numbers would you put low mid high handicappers?

mate im going to ask you very nicely please never post on one of my threads ever again you do not play golf if you think that the later part of you statement to true, GOODBYE

Firstly , didn't we just do this thread a couple of months ago?

And secondly, it's a free forum, everyone is entitled to their opinion, weather it suites you or not!

You seem to have a habit of asking people not to respond to your threads, maybe the better option if you only want opinions you agree with is not to start them?

I think that anything up to 5 is low and from 6-9 is mid and anything in double figures his high and anyone over 18 has no real intention of playing the game as a sport but more of a way of getting exercise with their mates and don't bother about holding up other golfers on the course.

Jesus Christ, I accept that people are entitled to their opinion, but are you for real? Anyone that is not single figures is a high handicapper? Do you realise that the average handicap is somewhere in the mid teens, so going on your philosophy most golfers are high handicappers!

IMO I don't consider 9 and under as low, I guess that cat 1,2&3 are about ok as a division. The different question is where does a happy hacker become a good golfer, I think when you are better than scratch

Well the average handicap is around 18 I believe

So 9 is half that - if you're single figures then surely you must be classed as low ?

I think he is just trolling a bit...

I go for Low upto 9 mid upto 20 and high everyone else, in the ladies game obviously the maximum handicap is 36 so I'd be tempted to push the low and mid boundaries up a bit!

0-9 Low
10-18 Mid
19+ High
I'd be quite happy with this definition on the following basis........
Golf is about making pars.....so.....f you are single figures you par/birdie more than half the holes you play so that's a pretty good standard in my book. 10-18 you usually don't but are probably getting there. Over 18 then pars are relatively rare so you can't be described (yet) as a decent golfer.

I take the point about Cat1, scratch, + men etc but you are looking towards elite people here. There is always a better category to place folk in and taken to extreme everyone who isn't a pro could be described as a duffer (probably accurately!) but I don't think that is helpful to the question posed here.

eloquent

I would also agree that it reflects the general thinking of the majoriity of those who play

importantly, it's rarely used in the first person (How good are you? I'm a 'low handicap golfer') where more precision is available.

can't say i've ever considered a golfer off 9 to be a low handicapper. decent golfer yes, low handicapper...erm, i don't think so!

to me there is a vast distance between a low handicapper and a mid handicapper. the difference is not simply a neat crossover between a 9 and 10.

I agree with this.

I think

- low is sub 6 handicap
- I think there is a 6-12 handicap which is a kind of low-mid range. As by the same token I've never ever heard a 6-11 be called a mid handicap.
- Mid I think is 12-18
- above 18 is high.
