The John Jacobs golf book I had (still have) as a kid learning, said on any par 5 always have a go, that's the only way you'll get an albatross or putt for an eagle, if you miss the green or short your still pitching close for a birdie putt............it's also fun 'having a go'
I think of that whenever I come to any second shot on a par 5
ideally about 45-55 yards thats far enough to throw the ball and get it to stop without it coming back at me everytime, happy with anyhting under 120 though
As close as possible - with all the wedges at our disposal we should be able to play from most distances and I figure that the shorter the shot the more control I can have.
Over 100 (50 gap wedge) or under 50, chip with gap wedge. 80 yards is my worst nightmare. Not a full shot with anything, and not a punch or chip. Very shank able. Not good.
Ive never layed up in my life. I usually take the club that will get is closest with every shot. Is laying up something i should be thinking about? I did ask myself the question the other day.
