What got me into it is although you can be competing against other people, you're in constant competition with yourself. If you play tennis against someone significantly less able than yourself, it's not really a game, yet you can have a good golf match against anyone (providing they aren't a sandbagger).

I think it's a mental thing for me. For various reasons I always need something to distract my brain with, and there's no bigger distraction than something that takes 3.5 to 4 hours and is the hardest game in the world to master. In that time I don't think or worry about anything else. Applies to all sport generally as well, but that feeling of executing a perfect shot is hard to beat.

I've not played in a couple of weeks now for a couple of reasons (storms and hangovers), but all I can think about now is how my first drive is going to go when I play this Saturday. I'm sat here in my office working, but that thought pops into my head at least once an hour. Tragic really isn't it?

I love golf a lot more than golf loves me. Feels unrequited at times.

Don't forget to stand up every once in a while to stretch your legs and take a few practice swings, it really helps ;)

I love the game, I love being out in nice surroundings and I love a round with good company.

I am possible quite unique in that, aside from the acts around actually playing a round of golf, I pretty much dislike everything else about or associated with golf which is why I am not playing more than the very occasional round at the moment.

Play with a good bunch every week and it just gets me out of the house. I'd been starting to get into it and playing very casually for a year, when I became single again, and then I was so glad I'd got started because it gave me something to throw myself into and pursue rather than just moping about. Golf was something that I could actually do for me after a few years of putting someone else first all the time.

This is what I've got myself into. Only 5 days membership but I have a group that play Tuesday and Thursday, a swindle that do Wednesday and Friday and a couple of mates who like before 9am rounds which suits me

So im averaging 2 rounds a week ATM
