First time I played it I was level par after 4 with a 7,5,2,2 start!

We were rushing off the first tee [small cough] to get ahead of a society.

so far Machrahanish Golf Club is the only course to really do it for me. for me that how golf should be. hitting you tee shot to a marker post. when you get there and turn round you have no idea where you came from. brilliant

Abroad I would go for Finca Cortesin, and I didn't even get to play it. I will this year though.

Excellent course.....longest I have ever spent on a golf course at a hair under 6 hours but we were walking round.

San Lorenzo in Portugal- the weather probably had something to do with it, but was still a stunning course when I played it 3 years ago!

Meh I think from 5 to 11 is fairly boring and not really in keeping with the rest of it. Murvagh for me is more intersting with only one fairly weak-ish hole but like all these things it is entirely subjective

CARNOUSTIE I have played it only once but what a fantastic course. I have played all the Open courses in Scotland and for me Carnoustie just beats Turnberry.

The Old Course just because it was the Old Course
Turnberry Ailsa as it was magnificent
Machrihanish Dunes as it showed what you can do with a new course in the classic links style

I'll throw another one into the ring since some people seem to have had multiple choices in their answer. Shiskine on Arran. It's only a 12 hole course but the views from every hole are different and on a beautiful day are simply stunning out over the Kilbrannan Sound to Kintyre. It's also a course that makes you play golf the way golf is supposed to be played.

If you don't know what that is.... then you'll just have to head over and play Shiskine Played it with the mother of a friend who must have been in her mid 80s at the time and she could still hit the shots required to put together a score. If Heaven has a golf course it'll be like Shiskine And Mem will be on the first tee every day.
