A mate plays golf with me and it is clear as day where he goes wrong, tries to whack the ball and all the weight transfers to the back foot and usually tops the ball. I tell him to transfer his weight and my tip is show me your heel so he can transfer his weight, i tell him he needs a lesson he doesnt want one and where for the past 6 months i have been going to the range at least once a week he has not visited the range. I tell him he aint going to get better without puting the practice into his game but he thinks he will get better by just going to the course every couple of weeks.

Some people don't have the inclination to want to practise or get better. You can lead a horse and all that and I'm guessing the more you hassle your mate about his fault the more he's digging his heels in (metaphorically) to show you he can do it his way

Same fault as I am trying to correct.
Probably, his weight stays on the back foot too long because he is swinging too hard & fast.
I am working on tempo at the moment, tell him to warm up by hitting some chip shots with a half swing.
His arms are probably moving way faster than his body can turn & the pendulum effect is upsetting his balance & rhythm.

Try to get him to narrow his stance when practising, so if he swings too fast he will lose his balance & try to create the club head speed with a wrist hinge & not by swinging his arms at 100mph.

In 5 words - worry about your own game.

you would be better of playing with someone else as your game will suffer if your playing with this guy,i used to play with high h/c players in the Thurs league comps but stopped because their hacking about drove me mental,i know we all have to learn but if he isn't interested cut him loose and have a drink after golf.

hopefully he will see how quickly you improve in relation to him... that will hopefully give him the inclination to practise.
