What Balls?

I am amazed that anyone can find the Cally tour ix soft. Off my putter they are soooo hard, and make a real click noise, like an old top flite xl. A guy I played with last night had one, and he found the same. Threw it away after 2 holes as being unusable. That said, we both use Scottys, and it may be a response off the steel face, rather than an insert face. ProV's sound good (either model), as do TM ldp red, Srixon AD333 etc. Wilson DX2s are like jelly babies, and way too soft. If you were complaining about them, I could understand it, but Cally make rocks (all models).

I've now tried the Z-Stars and definitely think they would be an addition to the bag. I like them off the driver and they aren't too dissimilar to the 333's off the putter.

the drawback - I'm not sure I want to spend £30 on balls while I'm still losing them.

Murph, perhaps I should have quantified.
losing them at the rate I did this morning I don't think it would be economically viable though it may be worth the investment to see if I lose these better balls less frequently.

It didn't work for HTL round Sundridge (I think he lost 5). He elected to play ProV1s, and it was an expensive experiment. Since you don't set out intending to lose balls, I can't see that the 'because you are playing a more expensive ball you concentrate more' idea is valid.

I've always advocated playing hte best quality ball you can afford to lose. I'm relativelylucky in that ihave a decent supply of premium balls and so although I'm losing maybe 2 a round at the moment I have a decent supply so economically its not hurting (just the emotional pain). If you cant't afford to lose top quality balls that regularly then move down to the Dx, Ad333 or NXT which are all pretty good balls in their own right. Unless money is really no object I'd recommned a newbie getting something relatively cheap per dozen until they reach a level of consistancy especially off the tee.

I have known HTL play well and keep the same ball all round without even sniffing any danger and seen him spray them to all parts (Lydd!) but I'm confident my man will be inspired on the 12th and we'll clean up at members/guest day

Im off 21...I tinker between Wilsonstaff DX2's and Titleist NXT Tours..... The nxt's are a little firmer in the short game than the wilsons but the wilsons are great around the green.....off the tee there isnt an awful lot between them i get great distance with both...
