What Balls?

janmolby, they are a good ball. The feel around the greens is good and you get decent distance with them as well, as I mentioned they are Srixon's middle of the road balls like Titleists NTX's but cheaper. The Wilson DX2 soft are good as well, but a couple of quid more in price.

Cally Ix's are like rocks to putt with, unless you have an Oddessy style insert putter. Off a steel putter face, definately a no.

ProV1's, still the best out there for me. Not tried the Z star yet though.

Tried a TM red ldp the other day which I quite liked as a more budget ball.

Current handicap +.8

I use ProV1x's as found the Prov1's spun to much the Pro V1X tends to stop where you hit it rather than trying to come back to you.

I have not tried the Callaway as I refuse to use anything from Callaway or Taylormade

When I'm getting balls from the club off my proshop credit I buy ProV1s. When I'm using my own cash I buy the cheapest soft ball available.
I've been using (& losing) the Wilsons the GM chaps were good enough to give us at the Belfry. They are nice for the long game but a bit too hard for the short game, for my personal tastes.

DX2's too hard? Are you mad? They are 50 compression, which makes them like wine gums. ProV's are way harder than that.

They are too soft, yes. Way too soft, but too hard? No.

They seem to spring off the club face more than Pro Vs.
It could be that I have absolutely no touch at the moment.

I think that's probably about the measure of it. That and the fact they don't check on the first bounce like a proV. Soft, but not grippy.

That's true. I'm used to those nice checking pitch shots where they take a small bounce & then stop. But the Wilsons run out after the first bounce.
The short chip & runs I been as heavy handed as Big Daddy!

I usually play AD333's but I have three Z-Stars that I found.
As I normally find Pro V's this must put the Z-Stars into the same category?

I hope so, I like Srixons more than others.

24 handicap Bridgestone e6+ balls

Nice and springy off the face with a durable design that reduces side spin, also a high compression for my swing.

Not much back spin though....

Handicap 5.7 and have used Bridgestone b330-s for the last year or so which are a great ball but have been playing about with the pro v1x and the nike tour d when the conditions are soft and the wind is up

Has anyone played the Srixon Z star balls? ive always been a fan of Srixon but when i got better they didnt do great equipment so they had went to the back of my mind.

Ive just got some Srixon Z Star X Balls, free when i subscribed to another Golf Mag and i find them Brilliant and definatley worth a try, i dont think you would be dissapointed. Now its coming to winter though (have we had a summer?) i always start using Srixon AD333's which i think are absolutley awesome for the price.

In winter I'll always swap to AD333 or NXT as the lack of spin compared with the softer balls I normally use is negated by the wet conditions and these harder balls tend to fly longer in the colder air.

I quite like Bridgestone 330RX. Problem is they are usually the same price as ProV1s.

I think alot of it is pschological to me. If I play a ProV into a green, and it doesn't hold, I think I have given it my best chance, and wander off thinking drop and stop my arse.

If I play something different (last night a DX2) and it doesn't stop, I think it would have done if I had used a ProV, and kick myself for not using the best. As a result, I mainly use ProVs. Even if I like 330RX, or TM ldp red, I would still be thinking that a ProV is better. Don't know why. Just conditioned (partly by hhistoical usage, and partly by advertising and endorsement).

Its a strange one. I hit a few cally tour Ix's recently when the greens were firm (remember Summer?) and they stopped great. I did the same with TM TP blacks and ProV and they didn't react the same way at all and yet all claim to be top spinning balls. All these shots were from about 100 yards with a full PW so I think I imparted enough spin.

I'm getting to the point with the higher end balls that I'm not so fussed on stop and drop or whatever each brand has as their buzz line and I'm going more now on the feel off the putter head. Here the Cally is losing as it feels very soft expecially compared to the TP black and Z star which have a firmer feel on middle and longer distance putts. The Pro V doesn't feelas firm but feels better on the quicker greens.

At the end of the day, and as murph says, are we actually getting any real performance (yes I can get controlled spin off all these top end balls) differences or are we buying out of a loyalty and subliminal media pressure

At your handicap would you not be better off buying a sleeve of each and then testing them to see which suits you better as opposed to asking everyone else what they use to formulate your choice!!!!!!

I've been trying Nike Vapours. They seem ok except for driving in high wind. Any side spin seems to be exaggerated more than the ad333's i used before. Catch em' right and they fly well though.
My handicap is 24.
