So as not to take the other thread off topic

What are the range of causes to glove wear (meaning both appropriate and excessive wear)

I'll kick off with:

  • Incorrect grip
  • Weather
  • Incorrect fit
  • Climate
  • Poor quality product
  • Built in failure period/life expectancy
  • Incorrect aftercare/storage

What else?

That would seem to cover it, I am pretty light when it comes to glove wear, however I do take care to replace them where they can air and dry out after the game so I suppose that helps.

Grip, grip , grip....

I used to wear them out as fast as Larry - on outside edge of the palm under the little finger. About 1 a month. Have changed my grip so that l hold the club more with the fingers rather than in the palm. Now only use about 4 gloves a year. And hit the ball much better.

But leaving them scrunched up, sodden wet in the bottom of a bag pocket doesn't seem to make them last any longer :o

Grip issues and poor fit

I believe it's also possible to have swing issues that result in the movement of the club grip against the glove even if the golf grip is correct.

The obvious ones being associated with 'over the top' swings that will force a change in the static grip even if it's a perfect one! As the hands move out the relationship between the grip and shaft has to change or the clubhead will pass outside/over the top of the
ball rubbing the top of the club's grip on the palm pad. This one goes hand in hand (no pun intended) with wear to the thumb.

Somewhere there's a detailed diagnostic of glove wear v swing faults; seen it but can't find it. It's very useful!
