What a Fantastic Day

Myself and Imurg have just returned from Wentworth having witnessed a truly marvelous days entertainment.

Not only did we witness a course in lovely condition, some of the best players in the world, saw the line up of Trophies,
Saw a shootout between the worlds number 1 and 2 "Winner takes all"

We got there really early, 6.20 to be exact, the place was deserted save for a few bods setting up the carparks etc. we had to wander around till we could exchange our Ryder Cup Voucher for kosher tickets,

To be honest, we could have not bothered as security was non existant, people had phones and even some cameras.

had a bacon roll, went to the practice area, followed the first group out, waited for the second moved on to the next hole, waited for the next group etc etc.

got to the junction of 7,8,10.11 and did a round robin, great place to watch.

By about 1.30 we started to make our way to the 18th getting there about 2.30

To our surprise we were able to get a seat in the grandstand overlooking the 18th green. And thats where we sat for the next 3 1/2 hours, watching all the games coming in whilst keeping up to speed via the big screen.

Ive never known the time go so quickly, there was never a wait for action and we saw quite a few go for the green .

There was real drama when Westy missed that birdie putt on the 18th

and we were taking bets on a playoff and hoping it would happen.

Great atmosphere, Great game, good weather all in all a perfect day, Not bad for a freebe

I am seriously envious now Fragger old chap. A grandstand seat for most of the afternoon is a great result.

It was fantastic - couldn't have orchestrated it better.

They had a brief "Seve" moment during the presentation - don't know if they showed that on TV - but I have to say I could feel myself going. Very intense.

Bit disappointed with Lee's reaction at the end of the play-off - throwing his ball into the stream and chucking his putter down - not necessary. I know he'd just blown it but he's a Professional and should know better.

I love Wentworth but I ain't paying 300 quid to play there...

I assume you got free tickets for the Ryder Cup washout ? Or have you found a way of sneaking on to the course, perhaps through one of the surrounding mansions garden.

Honestly Rich we could have just walked in. We drove through the front gate, up to car park 6, got out and walked to the first Tee. It was only our honesty that made us seek out the Ticket Exchange Office, we were never asked to produce tickets, there wasn't a "turnstile" or similar to go through, it would have been easy.

Maybe because Parker got out and opened the doors for us, fished our shoes out of the boot and tied the laces for us was the giveaway...?

Top post fragger, we are spoilt for the quality of European (English ) golf at the moment, and no better place to see it than a (new) classiclike wentworth

I like the 18th, From a spectators viewpoint its a great risk/reward hole, maybe better suited to matchplay (which in effect is what we had in the playoff)

It all depends on your score coming into the hole, where you are in relation to others on the scoreboard and how good your drive is.

Take Shane Lowry, he was level par coming in to the 18th and could have played it safe and scored a par which would have got him T13 and 69k euros, But no he went for it shashing shot and got an eagle 3, which put him 2 under for T4 for 191k euros, so that gamble paid off big time for him.

probably about 1/3 of the players went for it in 2, saw a few plops, saw a few go through to the bunkers at the back

I think maybe there should be a bit more ground between the green and the stream, maybe only 5 yards, but it would encourage more to have a go.

It was fine watching the players who laid up pitching in from 120-150 there were some great ones, but a few still messed up.
