Started in a cosy little mid terrace old cottage in a country village, was lovely but we quickly outgrew in and had bloody annoying neighbours in the end.

Just this month moved into a lovely 4 bed detached house with 2 garages and nice bit of garden space and only 2 other houses in our cul de sac, in a completely different county and for a lot less than our much smaller cottage. So can't see us going anywhere for a long while.

Started life in a mid-terrace three bed in a place called Merton Park (between Morden and Wimbledon on the tub map). Lived there until I met my good lady. Got a job in Bracknell and so spent 18 months living in the now in-laws kipping on a spare mattress on the floor. Moved in together into a mid-terrace two bed in a nice area and after sixteen years after losing my mum we've bought a new detached four bed on a new estate. It's in a great part (away from schools all the rat runs, community centre and shop) and five minutes walk from a nature reserve. I can see us staying here until we retire. Where we go then is still an open question

First place was a one bed ground floor maisonette in Harrow costing just under 20k and we needed a top up loan to afford it. Now live in our forever 4 bed detached house by the seaside.

Been through the whole earn more, buy a bigger house thing until thr insanity of it hit home when it was just my wife and me in a 5 bedroom house with loads of rooms we never used and we were paying to heat and maintain that. Took a lot of de cluttering but now happy in a 3 bed semi in a village we love, enjoying the extra cash that we have living in a house that is the right size for just us.

There's a huge amount of merit in reviewing what you need 'v' what gives you a better life. Our previous 4 houses have been 4 bed detached, even though there's only the 2 of us, and we had been without a mortgage for several years.

I could have carried on working till I was 66, covering our fun lifestyle and mega council tax and water rates etc, or jump off the rat race early. And jump we did. Sold up, bought a 3 bed semi in Spain, less than €70k all in, and retired 6 years early. Dropping the balance of the equity into our pension pots has made for a fantastic lifestyle. All fun and no massive council tax - we've gone from about £230 a month to £160 a year!!

Five bedroom, old and draughty farmhouse in 80 acres with a mixture of stables, workshop, garages and two huge Rippon sheds. Plus a three bedroom cottage and three bedroom bungalow which we rent. Probably worth about the same as a two bed terraced house down south!

an old COS Manse, built in 1850. far too big for the two of us, roof leaks, bats the eves and Mice in all the outbuildings. Garden is big with an orchard and lots of lawn area front and back, with along gravel drive... that needs more gravel on it.... they made a film about it.... it was called the money pit:(

We just rent a basic 2 bed apartment in a small block, the small balcony is probably its best feature (along with having two bathrooms)

An old police station converted into two semis years and years ago in an ex pit village on the outskirts of Gateshead. Garden is stupid, 4 lawns around the house and loads of flowers, bushes and trees, and I hate gardening 😡. The woman who had it before was a professional gardener I think 😂

I'm still in my 3-bed semi I bought in 1981.
Not too keen on the house but it's position is just so convenient.
It keeps Mrs Slime happy, and that keeps me happy.

A good case of the happy wife happy life syndrome!

When we moved in together in 2014 it was this time of year (28 day offer acceptance to completion) we found a house she loved but was top end of the budget.. we viewed it and loved it .. they then said they were willing to accept 20k less as they needed to move into their new build by Xmas or they would lose it

Win win all round! Wirlwind but 4 years on we still love the place

Driveway done, garden now fake grass and paving, that was some of the initial saving spent

Just need the loft done next year and we have it all set up for next 30 years

Like you.: the area is just perfect for us

We are in an overpriced 4 bed detached in prime commuter belt territory. Was in a bit of a state when we bought it, but in 3 years i have refurbished all of upstairs, installed 3 new bathrooms, knocked down some big walls and inserted steels and made the kitchen open plan. Nicked some of the attached garage for a utility room, knocked down the old massive conservatory and so far i am up to damp proof course for the replacement extension. Next will be the garden which i have cleared, but its just scabby lawn right now, we will get artificial grass and gravel the front and grow a hedge for some privacy.
My to do list is ever growing!!

Renting a small one bedroom flat as there is no way for us to be able to buy something here in London. Quite depressing actually. Not quite as bad as the four yorkshiremen sketch, but yeah. Could be better.
