Having played on Friday night in monsoon conditions (largely ineffectively) I’m ready to re-grip all my clubs with something new. I doubt any grip would have held up well in those conditions, but living in the tropical paradise of West Yorkshire, any minor advantage I can wage over the weather would be great.
The Tour Velvet grips on my irons are quite slick anyway so do need replacing (have scrubbed and cleaned once or twice). What do you lot recommend as a good grip in poor weather? It is rarely sunny here….

Cheers

Living in Scotland, you get used to wet weather. I have Lamkin Crosslines on mine which are pretty good but in all honest nothing beats proper Rain Grip gloves. There are loads out there and I have used MacWets, Footjoy, Dunlop and Golden Bear and all perform equally well. I have them in my bag at all times and I haven't worried about grip in the wet for years as a result.

How about corded or half corded grips instead?
I play standard Crosslines as well. I ifnd them pretty good in most conditions, and cheap as well.

I have never had an issue with wet grips, however playing on Friday in particularly wet weather i was prompted to consider new grips.

Pulled my 4 iron out the back, made a nice smooth back swing and before a knew it the club had slipped and i took a HUGE divot that started about 2 foot behind the ball. Pretty embarrassing. From this point on i had the absolute jitters on every shot and had to strangle the life out the thing to stop it flying.

Score went north at an alarming rate as i was petrified i would just lose control of the damn thing.

never helped that my leather glove was ringing wet either.

Mac wets may be the best solution?

Couldn''t agree more. Used to carry loads of old gloves to change during a wet round but now dont bother. Just use standard Mizuno M31 grips with rain gloves and the problem is solved.

Lamkin 2.5's, the bi-coloured ones red/white, black/white are supposed to be good in the wet, got them on my irons which is a bit of a waste of time as I don't play in the wet if I can help it...

I would agree with comments about it being more about the gloves than grips in the wet. The old suede type gloves used to get better when it was wet.

I would always go with cord and synthetic gloves for the best wet weather grip&glove combo.

I have Z Grips on my wedges. Love the feel and grip they give. Not cheap though. £13 a grip.
And to go against what everyone else has said, I despise rain gloves. I loose all feel and have no clue what the club is doing when I've worn them. I just keep glove as dry as possible ( only putting it on just before I take my shot ) and replacing it with a dry one if it does get wet. All comes down to feel, if you can get away with wet gloves there is an advantage to be had.

I have a pair of Macwets and they work brilliantly in the rain. I don't wear a glove in the dry.

not much wrong with new Tour Velvets to be honest. A dry(ish) towel under the umbrella to wipe them with and a pair of rain gloves will go a long way to helping, but nothing is a perfect solution!

I am a big believer in Full cord grips. I have Tour Velvet BCT cords fitted. I do still use a rain glove and even 2 when it's really wet.
