Wet conditions against dry conditions?

Evening guys!

Bit of a query for the wet weather golfers on here!

Just wondered - I was out on a 9 hole lesson with the local pro on Monday night and although super windy I ended up shooting about 6 over par which is well under my 18 handicap and I actually felt like I was getting somewhere.

I went to the driving range tonight and I found the transition from real turf to the driving range mats a world apart and struggled a little - I then played some balls off the wet sodden turf and I was taking major divots - the ground on the range is super soft though!!!

Walked off the range after hitting about 100 balls feeling like I have taken a step back!!

My query is during play in wet conditions do you suffer with thick shots and deep divots - should I be compensating in my swing to allow for the conditions etc?

I think it more likely that you were concentrating on all the 'good bits' with the pro...especially your set up. E.g divot after ball means a good strike. Sometimes we get away with it on the mat when the club can 'bounce' into the ball. I think the lesson had your set up spot on and hence the good scoring..nice one

If we all hit the ball perfectly and took a divot spot on, it wouldn't matter about the ground conditions.
As it is, a fat shot on wet turf is one of the worst shots; demoralising and embarrassing.
I'm (sadly) not a big divot taker through poor technique, so in the wet I'm careful and probably favour hitting the ball a little thinner even though I shouldn't.
