I'd love to see it too but can't see it now. Would Augusta represent his best chance given his record there.

Looking at the stats, would you say his lack of comparative distance causes a problem especially on long US Open type courses https://www.europeantour.com/players/lee-westwood-9486/stats?tour=european-tour

yep maybe the us open is not for him but maybe our open and definitely the masters. His driving only really leaves him one club longer in. I think if he catches Rory (likely) or Brooks (maybe injury struggles) on off days I thinks he stands as much a chance as the rest of the field. Might have to throw tiger in there somewhere though.

Fantastic performance and a joy to watch. Especially on Saturday, his all round play was as good as it's ever been and while his play wasn't as good on Sunday, he took his chances when they came and made some good saves.

Absolutely cannot rule him out of the Masters and the Open - has a great record at these events. He needs a bit of luck, but he was so calm and composed yesterday I think he'd be a real threat if he can get into contention. I'd imagine the US Open and US PGA courses will be too long for him to have a genuine chance.

Beat a field comprised of Fleetwood, Brooks and Cantlay... all of whom are legitimate major contenders. Ok, so there's still plenty who will come into a major field but he's playing well and will be very well placed around a tougher major set up.

We were all surprised in 2011 when Darren C won the open at Royal St Georges - maybe the return to the venue this year could be a good omen for an in form Westwood......

.......at least I really hope it will be!!!

Steady on Gents!

He played well but he's no major winner! Two of the best in the world were not in that field and others such as Rose, Spieth etc were also not in that field.

Sometimes you have to give credit where credit was due (especially when you're (me) quick to criticise) and it was a tremendous performance.

Ryder Cup I blooming well hope not.

I can't see him not playing the RC if he qualifies. He might not be fussed to qualify, but if he does, he will be there.

He will definitely play if he qualifies and in reality I reckon he will get in on the European Points list. Good chance that he delivers a decent finish at the Masters and Open and will play a fairly Euro focused schedule with all majors and Rolex events being on there and likely all WGCs... all of which will hoover points up in the Euro list.

But I think from his comments, he probably won't be adding in any extra events to boost his standing. He'll take it if it's there without going all out like the younger guys will be doing, playing 4 weeks in a row in the run up to the deadline.

Can see him being a specialist foursomes player, playing only 3 matches perhaps with Stenson, Garcia or Poulter, if any of them make it.

Westwood is now ranked well ahead of Spieth, and deservedly so.

Of course, it's just a tour event but still had a strong field (the strongest of the events this week) And come the Masters, plenty will be talking up the chances of Koepka, Cantlay, Fleetwood, maybe even DeShambles. All of whom were in the field and as the old saying goes, you can only beat what's put in front of you. Westy has a great record around Augusta, by far his most successful major and he certainly has the game to at least be up there, albeit winning will be a big ask.

But personally nothing in Golf would make me happier this year to see Lee winning a major. One of sports good guys.
