Not got it under pressure, like the Open, Masters etc when the pressure is on he can't rise to the occassion!

Discuss all you like but you know it's o' so true!

Hope you're wrong - but there's something that tells me you might be right.
He's blown the Player's now and he needs a big win soon or it really will prey on his mind.

His driving was poor today, normally its his driving that is good and short game that suffers. Twas vice versa today. It could have been a lot worse if it wasnt for a couple of radar putts. All credit to wee Clark though, he swings that hard his feet leave the ground and he is still outside the top 150 in driver distance and managed the win.

He is still talking well after going so close, and sounding positive for the future, but I agree, if he doesn't win a big one soon he never will.

Perhaps he needs to miss the cut at the next one by quite a few to lower expectations and then come back in style to win one before the end of the year.

Sorry i know what you mean but.....

This man is class. Try and listen to the interview on 5live that he gave which must have been shortly after the end of his round.

Considered, direct, and a good appraisal of what went wrong.

No excuses, no balling out anyone, no huffy walk off and not talk to the press, as a certain "Ryder Cup Captain" has been known to do.

I fact that he has not got the job done hides the fact that AGAIN he was up there. Week in week out at the mo (and that will come to an end sometime, golf does not let you play that well for so long)Westwood is in contention.

Cant say that about Casey, Poulter, Clarke, Donald, can you.

Well done Lee. Keep getting into contention and you will win.

Why is it that we Brits love to knock our sportsmen and sportswomen?

Why don't we celebrate the fact that the guy is holding his own with some of the top players in the world rather than talking him down and labelling him as a ‘choker?’

With all this negativity surrounding him it will be no surprise if he starts doubting himself and fulfil all the armchair pundits’ prophecies.

Anyway, is the world big enough for two Monty’s

Do you think if he bagged one he would gain confidence and make the same kind of push Paddy H did?

Yes I do!

And I don't think we're knocking Lee - great credit for being near the top in the last 4 biggies. But not being able to finish the job has to have an effect. What effect that is will depend on his mental strength and to a large part luck as well.
Lets face it, to win one of the big ones you need a bit of luck.

Hi,
I was logging on to start the exact same titled tread, Weird. Think he may have had his chances he seems to go out the last day and do a tiger play steady and let the feild fall away think he is not agressive enough I think it is either this year or never for Lee.
Mike

I like Westwood and I certainly am not knocking him for the fun of it however under pressure he's very very suspect. For a man whoes meant to base his game on his superb driving accuracy he is woeful when he's in a final group in the final round. He couldn't even find the short stuff with his 3 wood at times.

He's a very poor pitcher of the ball period and he never looked like holing a birdie putt of any sort over the last 36 holes.

Westwood sadly doesn't have the ability or mental toughness to take his game to the next level.

I usually have a go at anyone who can't do it when it matters, but not in this case. I like Westwood and would love him to win a major. He need to do it soon whilst he is hot, and will go on to win more, otherwise I think it will mess with his head and he will go on the be the next Monty, albeit a nice one.

Mickelson was a 'choker' for years. Think he got through it OK though. Lee's time will come.

VERY GOOD POINT

I remember Phil Mick had lost a USPGA in similar circumstances and was very (in the same way as Lee was in the interview i heard) confidant that his time would come.

What annoys me most about the thread is the title. I am sure the OP didnt mean it to look as it does, but the way Monty plays and conducts himself is so far away from how Lee does.

I agree he does need to get the job done more often in a big one, and from that point of view there is a comparrision. However the way that Lee is dealing with these setbacks is so much better that Monty ever could or did.

Westwood sadly doesn't have the ability or mental toughness to take his game to the next level.

But for anyone to have enough balls to get into the world top 5 is good enough.

So he'll never be number one. I'd still take a drink off him.

On a sidenote. I asked a question on his website months ago about the difficulties he's had historically with his shortgame, and did he see anything he could do to improve it, or was it something he thought he would just have to live with for the rest of his career.

Since then, he's answered questions about how wonderful he is, and how well he played in Dubai, and also about where to go to get a belt buckle like his. But nothing about his short game.

If you'd asked me a couple of years ago, I'd have never thought he's get to where he is today. So maybe I can't blame him for reaching a subconcious comfort zone.

But I think anyone can learn a good enough short game if they want to ( ask Greg Norman ).

It's down to him to admit his weaknesses if he wants to improve further.

Either way. He's still a top notch golfer.
