Hi,

I am taking my son to the practice day this year. We've been on tournament days before but after talking to my sons coach he recommended a practice day as you tend to get to see more, particularly around the greens where the pro's will play a variety of shots into and around the greens.

Does anyone have any feedback on what it is like? Do you get an order of who is out on the course and when? Are all the displays up and running as my son is also into his cars and likes the BMW stand

Thanks

Its a great day out if you make the most of it. All the displays for the cars etc are all there so no worry about that.

There isn't a list of when players go out, its just whenever they fancy. So its best to find a player you want to follow and just keep an eye on them when they leave the practice ground to go to the first tee. Which is only about 200 years or so from the practice ground. Just make sure you get out to the course to see them practice as you say you get to see a few more shots than you would usually.

My tip would be to walk around the course backward and then you are always meeting new groups as they come through. Find a spot around a green is always good, or on a tee box where drivers are being hit just to watch the ball flights. Is a good day out.

I done this last year and it was a great day.

Just wandered around, followed a few groups for a few holes, found a nice spot then sat and watched a few groups come though. Followed a few more for a few holes.

It wasn't that busy and it was nice to see the pro's messing around a little bit as well. Some do take it a bit serious, but if you find a group that is having a laugh and have a bit of banter going then it's fun to follow them.

I'll probably do it again this year if I can sneak a day off.

I'm going, for £11.50 it would be rude not to!

Was going to ask the same about times etc.

I guess there will be a lot of people hoping to see Rory, Stenson and Rose, which will be great to see, but will pick out some quieter spots too.

What time would you aim to get there? For those that have been before.

The times I've been before on the competition days I've always tried to land as early as possible, that way you catch one of the early groups before it gets too busy. Last time I went Rose tee'd off about 8am and we were able to follow him round to the 16th before things started to get crowded.

Was going to apply the same logic to the practice day as I would think some of the bigger players may look to sneak out early before it gets busy.

Thanks for all the advice much appreciated

Get there as early as you can. Make the most of the day, some players will go out early and then practice, some will go out later and practice first. But theres no way of knowing till you get there whos gona do what.

What does as early as you can mean practically? I could get there at 6am, is that too early?

Or are we just talking 8 am or a little before?

It means what it means, if gates open at 7am and you can get there for 7 then go, if you can't get there till 10 then get there for 10. Don't say well I have nothing on I could get there for 7 but I think I'll wait it out till 10 before I leave.

For me I like to make the most of the day there, so I'd rather get there early and then I get the chance to see more players and walk around the course more.
