I got a phone call this morning from the New members secretary asking if I was going this morning, I don't like speaking to people before I meet them as my voice can give me away over the phone, but she said she would make sure there was someone to play me.
I turned up and met loads, going to take some time rememberin all the names and faces. I ended up playign with the lady who had rung me and another. One played off 21 the other off 36.
1st hole wasnt a good start, a scuffed tee shot, but after that I generally hit the ball fairly well.
Even though I didnt think I was hitting it very far, around the same as the 21 handicapper although she said she thought I hit it further than her. the length I was getting was commented on. "I see you will be one of our longer drivers" My putting wasnt brilliant and I scuffed a few, but scored 51 for the first nine We played off fairway mats, never used one before but they seem to be very forgiving.
The ladies only play 12 holes during the winter, I dont blame them, it was very cold this morning. I didnt do as well on the last 3 8,7,5 the last was a par 3.
When we finished, I got sorted out with a locker and we had a spot of lunch, more names and faces!
I got promises of partners who would play 18 holes with me once the winter rules are finished so I can get a handicap. Everyone was very friendly.

So all in all it seemed to go well and I will be easier next time.

The course is very nice, quite undulating with a few streams, I think I will enjoy playing it regularly. I might try for 18 holes tomorrow.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

Never knew it got that cold in Manc...

I spent 3 years at uni in the 'pool and it was usually fairly warm, but we were warmed by the Irish sea and the Irish booze :D

Sounds excellent - well done you!

I wouldn't worry about the distance comments. When I was playing for handicap after joining my club my partner commented after one drive that she'd only ever seen the men drive it that far. Truth is I've played with plenty of women who hit it as far and further than me so it's all relative....

Good to hear it went well Louise. Don't worry about remembering names, I can't remember names or faces, so just try and be friendly to everyone, without using names.:)

glad to hear it went well mate and hope you enjoy your next outing. Like you I struggle remembering names , which is why I refer to everyone as mate or knob.:D

see - we told you there was nothing to worry about! 51 is perfectly respectable

and we all scuff shots ;)

Or hole 6 irons eh Heidi!

Glad it went well Louise.
Nothing better than a bonus of chipping in where you have no idea where the hole is! that one was a fluke ;) had plenty of scuffed shots too, but i'm blaming you and the London pub! ;)

Good for you Louise, I tend to right my playing partners names in light pencil on the card if I've never played with them before, saves embarrassment in asking again after 12 holes.
