You couldn't make it up!

Not only will they stifle the housing market, they have raised taxes despite inferences to the contrary.

They said they will create Scottish jobs for Scottish people yet award the Scottish Rail contract to a Dutch company for the next ten years http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/08/firstgroup-results-idUSL6N0S30TH20141008

Scotland- you dodged a bullet with these idiots!

It almost looks like a case of "we didn't get independence (their whole reason for being) so we'll fanny around and raise taxes, give away jobs and screw up the NHS (this will be ongoing)

Don't let a headline get in the way of facts. In reality the only people being affected are those who purchase houses of over £300k, most run of the mill working class people will not own houses of that value, the average house price in Edinburgh which is the most expensive region in Scotland is under £230k

Average property price, possibly, but not houses. We're looking to move out of our flat into a house and will be impacted by this unless we move right out of Edinburgh.

can you show evidence of this?
*edit* I've googled it to see this, it also noted that they are way down on previous average of £448,947! when they come back up post referendum how will that affect these people that are currently under the £330k worse off tax wise, who will now pay considerable more tax under the new scheme.

As most people aspire to owning property and seeing it increase in value, they wil now see a large chunk of that aspiration swallowed up in tax.
Heres a fact for you, buying a £500,000 property will cost you about 60% more in tax than under the present scheme.

This isn't something that's just been thought up, it's been on the way or a couple of years at least.

The sooner they take the stop off the council tax increasing the better, local authorities are hamstrung because of this.

if that is true why did they constantly dodge the question of raising tax in an independent Scotland? why didnt someone point to the facts, I assume they are written facts and not hearsay, as that would have seriously harmed their pledge to have a more prosperous and fair Scotland?

Average property costs Scotland as at April.

Easy to let stats be dramatic, A £500k will cost £4 more in tax, ie less than 1% of the house value.

Well time will tell won't it but sounds fair enough to me. Wish someone had stifled the housing market in the South East about 30 years ago. Maybe then our children could afford to get on the ladder and the credit fueled boom times wouldn't have lead to the sort of crashes we've seen since??

We're still seeing the effects of the last major housing boom. Properties well over what they are worth. People who still can't afford to sell as the market has receded so much they'd be committing financial suicide if they sold now.

How the ordinary man is supposed to afford one of these £500k house beats me, you've still got to live as well as pay the mortgage. As someone has said earlier, it's our kids that are going to suffer most when they try and get on the housing ladder. Whist the new process may well help the market get moving for new buyers, they've still got to have a heck of a lot of money behind them to get on the ladder.

Calm down Alex Darling.
Prices in Scotland are not the same as Bethnal Green.
£185k can buy you a decent property in nearly all areas of Scotland

So the few that can pay half a million for a hoose will pay a bit more and 90% of house buyers will pay either nothing or the same as the old system.
Sounds good to me and I would imagine most fair minded people.

Not in Edinburgh, DFT, not in Edinburgh. I'm appalled by this and I'm pretty fair minded usually.

Aint that the truth Dave and try telling a 21 year old to start saving for a house deposit when all they can think of is cars, women, nightclubs and holidays
