So I only haveone wedge. It’s a 4 (ish) year old Cleveland 56 degree. I use it for bunkers aswell as for around the green.

I’m thinking of changing. But budget is an issue. Also, I have no idea what constitutes a good wedge.

There is an offerat £99 for two, new, TaylorMade ATV HP or 2 Nike Engage wedges. Or for £120, Ican get two Cleveland 588 RTX wedges.

If anyone canshed any light on buying wedges, especially the gaping and difference in the lofts, that would be great as it makes no sense to me at all about whether I need 1, 2 or 3 in the bag, or 52, 54, 60, lob etc.

Thanks,

Nick

Go second hand to see what you like.Look up Peter Finch on YouTube. He did a good video this week on second hand clubs you can get for cheap that won majors recently. If you could pick up a 50, 54, 58 for under 100 quid would be good to use.

Personally I would give Iain Clarke of Icy golf a call and discuss with him. He offers a full service and has a wealth of knowledge on wedges.

Cleveland Rtx nice wedges.
Try to find your pitching wedge loft in your irons.
old clubs might be 48 degrees then try and keep the gaps consistent.
so if your wedge in your irons is 48' go for 52/ 56/ 60 lofts.
it is the bounce angle you need to think about this is the amount of bulge under the leading edge.
Mine are as follows
gap wedge 52 loft. 10 bounce
sand wedge 56 loft 14 bounce for bunker play.
lob wedge 60 loft 8 bounce

if your irons wedge has a different loft than 48 just adjust the loft on the new ones to keep consistent loft gaps.

Youtube is good for this just watch a few vids
Reviews for your wedge choices are on there also.

First off check what the loft on the PW from your set is, this can vary wildly (more "player focused" irons tned to be 46ish and the "game improvement" ones can go as low as 42ish). Then it really depends on how you want the top and bottom end of your bag to look but I would recommend at least 2 specialty wedges on top of the PW. 52,58 would be my recommendation without knowing anything re your set make up or game. You will also like to have one wedge with slightly more bounce for bunker play

so been looking on line at a few videos - got even more confused because of the whole bounce issue and how I actually play the shots.

I think though, I need a wedge that I can use for sand as well as around the green - 56degree - and another but with a lower bounce as I tend to sweep not dig say at 60degree.

not sure, so might have to pop along to my local AG to try a few things out.

thanks,

Depending on your pitching wedge loft I would think a 52 and 58 would be sufficient, I had rtx wedges and they are excellent, I'm sure you can cover all yardages with the lofts I mentioned and from what I recall the 58 sits nice and open behind the ball so you can deliver a full range of shots.

In all honesty Jamie me man. I have vokeys and think they are a thing of beauty. 48,52, and 56 Degrees
Bought them very early in my resurrected playing career purely because they were the best. However I had thought that a wedge is a wedge. Last week I got hold of a ping wedge in the club shop and thought it looked ugly, felt heavy and not balanced like the vokey is. Now don't get me wrong. I have Ping irons and they like a wand in my hands, but there was just something about the way that Ping wedge felt.
Some people may say the same about the vokeys. But me I don't think you can go wrong with them.

Cleveland are good wedges, not sure on the TM. are those nike ones not the ones that go rusty after a couple rounds?
Wedge set up is generally 4-6 degrees between lofts, 4 being more popular, as has been said check your pitching wedge loft first.
I use a 52.56,60 set up, my pitching wedge is 46. 56 degree with 10-14 bounce is good for bunkers and soft ground, lower bounce is good for firm surfaces? Iv got a set of 3 wedges in the for sale section for under £100, if you want to have a look.

46 , 50, 54 and 58

my stock pitch is 43 and I never use it anymofe

if I ever came to change my wedges but was keeping the stock 43 wedge I'd get a 48 , 54 and 60 degree wedges
