Wedges

I reckoned you were above 13 so I was almost right.

To answer your repeated question I used to leave out the 2 5 and 7 leaving me 3 4 6 8 9 pw and sw and got myself down to 2.7 with that, so I suppose I had to manufacture shots, to me it was just playing golf.

I reckon you are new-ish to golf as well? as PW SW was the norm in the past, it was only after certain manufacturers started strenghthening their PW's, some as low as 45* that 'gap' wedges started to come in to fill the ..erm...gap. Manufacturers creating their own market.

Nah, only 18, so even worse than you thought.

Well done for getting down to 2.7. It was an honest question, not having a dig.

Amazingly, I did know about loft shenanigans of some manufacturers. My pw is 44 degrees, so I believe that warrants a gw.

God, everyone gets so tetchy on here if someone has a different view. Is it because you are low handicappers so look down with distain on anyone not at your level? To answer your question, funnily enough I have 14 clubs and obviously have to 'manufacture' shots. My point was merely, why leave bigger gaps than is absolutely necessary? Sorry for having an opinion.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion that is the point of a forum and people do not look down their nose at others on here because of handicap. It is just that your arguement for a 4 wedge setup made absolutely no sense, if you had said you prefer to an extra wedge than having more clubs in the long end of the bag, that would make sense, not saying why do you not drop your 7i.

I can see why you carry an extra wedge if your PW is 44*, that is very strong. Everyone has their own preference, even with your setup someone else like me would probably choose different loft wedges. I would have a 48*, 53* and 58*. It all comes downto how comfortable you are with controlling distances. Some low handicappers on here have a 48*PW, then a 52*, a 56* and a 60*.

Thank you for your measured reply. The 7i remark was just an example. With my 44* pw, I would have huge gaps if I drop a wedge, just if I was to drop any other club was the point I was making. My 4 wedge setup makes perfect sense to me. Just saying.;)

PW, 50, 54, 58 and 62 here. PW 52, 56 and 60 in spain. I'll go to PW plus 3 others next season. Hope to add driving iron to the other end of club selection.

gap wedge been out of the bag for the last month. don't really miss it! wont be going back in over winter as it has low bounce! quite fancy a high bounce gap wedge though for chipping!

Stock pw is 47* then my spec'd wedges are 52 and 58. I hast this set up off 16 and will continue with the set up well into cat1 if I get there.

It's not a handicap snobbery thing at all, it's spending time with your wedges and learning to play a range of shots with each. This gives me more gap between 3w and 4i to play with clubs here. I'd rather have more choice between 225 and 180 yards for approach shots than have a wedge that is closely matched to another,

..... But I do spend time constructively I playing with wedges at the range so I'm happy to manufacture a shot on request.

Jesus Christ, do you have room for anything else? Just wondering what you actually have in your bag?

Driver, 5 & 7 wood. 5 to PW, putter and of course 50, 54, 58 and 62.

I hit driver better than 3 wood off tee. Don't hit 3 wood very well off deck. Struggle with 4 iron and don't get on with hybrids. I miss a lot of greens so I added a 62 rather than carry 13 clubs.

Fair enough, just wondered how you managed to get 5 wedges in the bag, i couldn't even make room for 4. What irons do you use, are they strong lofted or something?

Just wondering.......what can a 62* do that a 58* can't?
