Are there wedges for high handicappers and wedges for low handicappers? I see people off 28 playing with massive CGI irons but carrying 3 vokeys?

Wedges tend to be very personal choices, you should however consider which lofts and bounce angles will suit your game and the courses that you play on.

I believe if you dont like what your looking down at you wont play well with it!!

I feel that there is so much loft on wedges that that alone provides forgiveness but yes there are GI wedges for some sets. It is getting less popular as there are a lots of sets now that are 4-PW or 5-PW or whatever.

I don't think a high handicapper like myself needs to worry about wedges other then the pw and sw IMO...learn to play with them and no need for 2 or in some cases 3 more confusing the situation. I tryed a 64* lob wedge for a few rounds before lobbing it into my garage and in there it stays.

Im beginning to think that bounce is the most important thing, im a highish handicapper and have an old 52 Cleveland BENI i picked up 2nd hand years ago that i hardly use now as it has no bounce and if i fat it even slightly i dig a right hole and the ball goes nowhere.

Maybe if you alter your technique a little it may help

Intriguing comment Bob! can you expand on that please? :) I bought it years ago before i had a few years break and used to hit it fine, i would say i strike better now, but 9/10 shots with this wedge are fat and nowhere....a golf buddy reckons i need to change it as in his opinion the shaft is probably that old it doesnt flex right orso anymore?

Most "aftermarket" if you like, wedges are similar to blades in that they do not have a lot of in built help, so a good strike is essential if you are going to get the most out of them, I would suggest that you look into the wedges for the set of irons you have as they keep the design of your irons and tend to be a little more forgiving.

The next time you try and use the wedge, make sure you accelerate through the shot.
I think you've probably got in your head you're going to duff it even before you start.
I would say with 99.9% certainty, it's not the shafts fault.

Are you psychic Bob? :D

I do indeed believe i am going to duff it every time, on the rare occasion i do try it again.....every 4th round orso, i try to clear my head and be positive but nope a new crater on the course!

Thanks for the confidence re its not the club! my buddy does come out with some bizarre stuff that he fully believes and has me doubting but i have put that one to bed now, cheers.

I will definately try and use it again next time im out and commit to fully accelerating through, ill let you know the result. ;)
