Hey guys,

recently just purchased some 710 ap1s the loft of the pw is 45 deg im looking to match up some wedges as my current ones are 52 56 60 and i feel theres too much of a gap. im looking for ideas on what lofts people would buy to give them the best option and also if they can reccomend any decent wedges cheers

EDIT either a 2 3 or 4 wedge set up is fine

cheers

I would be looking at 50 54 58. Personally.

Vokeys would be natural choice with titleist irons but I prefer clevelAnd. Not that many bad wedges about so it comes to personal preference and how they suit your eye.

I went 45/50/54/60.

54 plenty of loft to get out of the sand and the 60 is great around the greens when you really need to get up and down, I find it more versatile than the 54/58 combo

Agree about the 60 wedge. I have 52/56/60 Norman Drew wedges (prefer them to my vokeys).

Id just change out the 52 for a 50 , i think you'd be fine once you close that gap .. i wouldnt get too hung up on it tho as we often open and close the faces on the wedges playing different shots , so what it says on the club might not be degree every tme you hit it
Just an opinion tho mate no facts to back that up or anything

My PW is 45 degrees so had my cleveland wedges adjusted to 50,55,60 to close the gaps rather than buying new.

Wedge set up is as personal as choosing a putter IMHO.

The PW in my set is 46° and I opted for a 52°, 58° set up.

I have an even spacing distance wise and have yet to find myself in a situation where I've thought "I really could do with an x° instead here"

If you'd prefer to hit full shots into greens, opt' for more wedges. Something like (45°), 50°, 54° and 58°

If you want to be a little more creative, carry less (See my example above).

Just remember that the more wedges you carry, the less options you may have at the other end of the bag with the 14 club limit.

It really depends what type of wedge player you are. Personally I like to have 3 swing types (full - 3/4 - 1/2) and use those swings with 4 wedges (inc.PW) to vary distance. Others prefer to play more varied shots with fewer wedges? It really depends how you want to approach your short game.

If you follow my approach then either 50/54/58 or bent to 49/53/57 would be ideal. As for brands of wedges Vokey's would go well from a brand consistency point of view! Apart from that everyone seems to do a decent wedge offering. Apart from Taylormade IMO, I can't get on at all with the ATV wedges. Awful.

You need to consider bounce as well as loft. Currently I have a 47/07 AP2 wedge and two Vokeys 52/08 and a 56/11. I am going to add either a 60/07 or 60/10 over the next few days.

In the OPs position (and h'cap) I'd stick in a 50 and a 56.

The objective should be just to get on or around the green rather than worry about fancy little shots with more loft or flag hunting.

Stock full and 3/4 shots with each club will fill your gaps - sound bunker technique to shovel it out every time and you will be slashing that h'cap in no time........

.........Then you can revisit this and think about your wedge gaps again as you become more proficient.

+1

As others have said it's all up to personal choice, i have quite a big gap between my wedges but i rahter have the gap lower down in the bag than at the top end.

As for wedges i've had Clevelands and they are a good wedges and i've now got Mizunos, they are heavier in the head than the Cleveland i had but i prefer the extra weight.
