Wedge Yardages

There ought to be a correlation i.m.o.

My PW goes about 120 full shot. To play 100 yards, I need to take a lot off...it feels like 1/2 shot
My GW goes 95, maybe close to 100 and likewise, to hit only 80 requires the feel of a 1/2 shot. SW goes about 80...etc.etc.

I tend to get a reading (to the middle) and then take into account the pin placement. Anything over 80 is played with GW, anything over 100 with PW. In between all that, I don't do any maths or have set routine for certain yardages. I guess, for me, 3/4 swing takes off 10% and 1/2 swing 20%...something around that...

Depends whether you try to hit it with soft arms as well as with a shorter swing. you can also try, on shorter shots, to hit it a bit more off the toe and it comes off a bit deader and lands dead weight on the green. I read about Johnny Miller doing that when he played in the 76 Open. Worked for him!

Personally, I have a good idea of my distances with full wedges...
47* 130-140
52* 120-130
60* 80-100

Anything within 80 yards and I pick a club based purely on the conditions, pin position etc. and swing accordingly.

Odd numbers these?......what distance do you expect a 9 iron to go?
