Hi all, I am new (first post) so please go easy on me.

My name is Paul and I'm from Swindon, I've been back playing now for a year after a lengthy 11 year lay off with back problems so there's a good chance you may be seeing a lot of me over the next few months so I will apologise in advance!!!!:smirk:

Things have been going pretty well since my return although having now turned 40 the body isn't twisting and bending as it once did!!! My major problem though is my short game, more specifically just off of the green 20/30 feet from the pin... I am just under hitting everything that I play and have absolutely NO confidence in my little chip shots. I am tring to 'put' my 56 degree wedge and its just not working... Should I try less loft? Is there a drill I could try at home as I cannot get to the practice green at my club very often.

Thanks in advance!!

I certainly don't use my 56 for anything but sand or deep rough. I'm a 'low bounce' player, so the high bounce of my 56 is not suited to my style of chipping.

52, PW, 8 or 7 - or Hybrid! - are my chipping clubs. I've had a bit of a thing with 9 ions in the past, so avoid, but know of someone whose go-to chipping club is his 9-iron.

Rule of thumb is use the club that bounces on the green, then rolls to the hole - though front pins can make that difficult.

putting a 56 wedge is not really going to work unless you only have a short distance to go and popping it onto a lightening fast green.

here is a list of chipping and pitching tips posted in a different thread.

Welcome :)

For me, chipping/pitching is all about landing the ball where you want to. Judging the roll out is gained through experience on course.
With that in mind - if you have a big enough garden - you can buy cheap chipping nets or stick an upside down umbrella in the ground and try to land the ball in there.

The videos that Gary posted are good to see how it should be done, then it's all about gaining a feel for distance.
