Does anyone know what price you would expect to pay for a new website for a golf club.

Looking at something that is easy to navigate,wouldn't think it would need more than say 10 pages and something that really catches the eye.Anyone any examples of sites that are as I said,easy to navigate and uncluttered and eyecatching?

Does anyone know of a good quality company that would build a bespoke site for around the £500 to £700 mark,would need the option of updating from source so not having to get them to do it.

I had a quote recently to build a sailing club website that the wife works at. It was to be built in wordpress and updateable by her, so it needed to be very user friendly.

If I remember correctly is was about £500.

Is that a good or bad thing....what else would it be done on?

I aint got a scooby about any of that so any tech info would be appreciated.

I've got 2 sites (you may have seen them ) which I did myself and costs next to nothing so it's not that difficult.
Unless you want to get all poncey, it isn't worth it imo.

Bob that is a matter of opinion. So many websites look dreadfully cheap and nasty like they have been done on the shoestring that they more than likely have been.

If it is for a golf club then it has to be professionally done and done to a high standard,it is after all going to be one of the clubs most powerful marketing tools.

When I was shopping around for someone to build img, I had quotes ranging from almost £15k down to £600. Both would have looked and worked the same as far as customer UI was concerned, so how they got to £15k, I don't know?!

I reckon it's pretty good for non e-commerce sites (sorry, if you're not trying to flog anything tangible!)

Have a look at some of the templates of which there are thousands, and some of the examples. I was looking at college sites as an idea for the sailing club.

Agreed, it has to look good but I reckon all it needs are the following.

1. Home page
2. Maybe a bit on the history
3. Course
4. Pro shop
5. Visitors info.
6. Where are we/contact nos.
7. Gallery
8. Facilities.
9. Membership costs/how to join
10. Members section

And lots of pictures

Ah ken that,it is down to the club supplying them.Pictures sell your course and they do not sell mine as well as it should.

Why not just open a forum? Put a nice entry homepage page for visitors and a few seperate html pages about the course etc (primarily for google) and the rest can just go on the forum pages where you can admin it yourself. Only the course members can join/post etc if you want, and you can have diaries, pictures, announcements or even a private section that no-one apart from members can see. Whatever you want basically as it's your own little space and you can lock/edit/delete whatever you want.

there's lots of hosting that basically comes with free forum software that you instal with one click... you just need a few pages built and they'd practically never need to be changed.

We've had enough threads on here over the last few years about the pros and cons of various golf club web sites and how they look, feel (oh, there's that word again ), or look about them. We've even had examples posted with links on here.

Websites don't have to be 'noncy' to look good and work. Or even expensive. A website is part of the clubs marketing budget, and should be treated as such. Not some after-thought that's been knocked up by some well meaning incompetent member.

Spend a little bit of money on it, it will be worth it.

I look at it this way. A bad website with bad info, bad pics, and out of date, WILL put me off going to that club. The club has lost me as a potentiasl paying punter.

I think you'll struggle to find a professional web design company who can make you a half decent site for £500-700. As someone else suggested, maybe a Wordpress based site would be easiest/cheapest to put together. You can always get an amateur to do it for you but remember - you get what you pay for.

As you said it's a marketing tool, a source of infomation.
To attract nomads and potential members.

When I go to a golf club website I want to see
photos of the course to see if it looks nice
Where the course is (postcode)
How much it is.
Facilities...Bar, restaurant, pro shop

Thats it.
How much more do you need as a visitor.

All the info is loaded and thats it. It doesnt need constant updating every week.
Apart from maybe comp results or tee times in the members section I cant see what costs up towards £1000 to build.
A link to Facebook and twitter maybe and a forum for the members?

I'm obviously off 28 as a web designer, but thats down to my lack of artistic juices.

Bob, it costs so much when you are employing a firm to do it. If you reach out and get a student web designer to do it, you are talking little more than a hundred or two. I know a few guys who are doing this sort of thing from a local forum.

Same reason why golf lessons cost what they do.

I mean all you need to do is read a book about it, and then swish the club around a few times, you can do it yourself.

Why would you pay someone ~£30 to watch you swing the club a few times, tell you a few sentences about how to do it differently, then watch you hit some balls untill the 30mins is up?
