waterproof suits!!!

I see where you're going with this. Life-Time warranty.

I suppose it'll be in fashon for a life time too?

Dunno I am no fashion expert but you were lauding the three year warranty with proquip but surely the life time warranty influences the price?

All I was pointing out was an alternative in Proquip. The 3 year warranty, to me , is more than acceptable and only attests to the quality of the product (against other brands only offering 12 month water proof guarantee). After all, it's not likley to fall apart a day after the warrenty expires is it?

Don't get me wrong, I love the look of some of the GG products and yes, I suppose, the price may be influenced by there lifetime guarantee. I just find the brand expensive and feel there are cheaper options that offer a fantastic level of quality but don't cost the Earth.

So you think £135 for a jacket with a lifetime guarantee is costing the earth surly that must be comparable to proquip prices?

Don't get me wrong I don't doubt proquip or any other manufacturer with the quality or product but for people to blindly say that gg stuff is overpriced hype, is like saying all bentleys are rubbish as they are expensive.

A big component of the price of the waterproofs is the fact that it is Gore-Tex and Gore-Tex is expensive. It is also effective and lasts.

The odd person with an issue hardly constitutes a reason not to buy something. I've just sent back a pair of FJ Contours because the leather started to fray after a couple of rounds. Does that make FJ a poor company with over-priced products? Hardly. It just means that there was a duff product out of the thousands upon thousands that they sell each year.

The prejudice against GG on here always winds me up. It is so irrational.

You've got people on here paying £300 for a driver, £200 for a putter, yet no-one berates them for their judgement despite there being dozens of cheaper alternatives that would do the job almost as well (or even better).

Next time someone comes on saying how wonderful their new R11, 910 etc is, see how many people reply with "You're an idiot. You could have got a perfectly good driver for £80." :D

Not at all. £135 is very reasonable, especially for GG. Forgetting the OP slightly I was talking more about the GG Astor or Akin range, So I'll apologise now for that.

I've always used Proquip for golf, and in other outdoor sports before and never had an issue so I probably am a little biased.

As for Bently being good cars, that's a whole new can of worms you've opened ;)

Best leave the cars alone ;)

So have you ever bought or worn a gg jacket? If not how can you compare the two?

I have worn a GG jacket and there is no denying their quality, just a bit pricey. I also tried a pair of the water proof trousers when specing up my new pair and they were very good. I still broght the Proquip though

I'm one of these people that one they find a brand that suits them, their budget and quality expectations, I stick with it. See my signature :D

This is a very good point that you make. Nice one.

Last Saturday, 5 holes and walked in due to rain - landed in the changing room, off came the GG's, inner clothing soaked through!!

Off to the pro shop to show evidence of problem to be met by cross examination .. were they washed in detergent, are they stored wet, etc - before agreeing to send them back.

Still waiting the outcome but both GG's and staff at pro's shop left me with a bitter taste in my mouth!!

Perhaps yours are dodgy Chinese fakes?

i bought a palm grove waterproof suit from AG last year, think is was £40ish, BARGAIN! wear it whenever it rains. spot on in my eyes. could never justify paying hundreds for a suit though!!!

tried the Mizuno Impermalites today at Goodwood in the Trilby Tour practice round........really impressed........sleeves come off which was handy as it was humid and raining. The trousers can be altered by up to 2" with a neat press stud fastening at the knee.
The water beaded off the suit rather than soaked n...........but the best thing was they have a really cool Mizuno logo on them!!! :D

£149 from Direct Golf...........good value.

And before you say anything......I have 2 GG suits to compare against.

The Mizuno is not better, it's just different.......classy and effective. :D

after my soaking on Saturday, hunted down some new wetgear.
found a new Sunice jacket on ebay - won it for £34 ! (I have a parcel waiting at the PO for me to collect - can't wait)

Got some trousers today - much as I'd like Gore-Tex (or the alternatives available now the patent has expired) - I can't afford them. Got some Nike Storm from the pro-shop, 3-year guarantee - which I will look after.

You talking about the trousers or jacket or both?

I wore my jacket last weekend and was a bit wet, I put it down to either sweat or water running down my neck. I have one of them Ping "waterproof" hats, they are not waterproof and are more like a sponge that helps the water gather in the lining then run down your neck.

Sunderland/Pro Quip = Good but wear out after washing.
Stuburt = Very waterproof but the zips always break
Sunice = Strange sizes and good but cant take heavy rain

No fake unless our top Golfing Centre are now buying in Chinese fakes and charging top whack for them!

Parmo, this was the trousers only but as I was using a brolly the top was not tested the same BUT they just suddenly lost their waterproofing - they have been worn before but only in light rain and more for warmth. This time is was very wet but a cheap(ish)(Sunderland) wet suit worn by my golfing partner did not let the rain in.
