Am I alone in absolutely hating watching ANY golf from the US, primarily because of the unbelievably annoying tw@ts that insist on yelling out the very sensible 'get in da hole !!' tripe after every shot, and even Tee shots on Par4/5s etc......
Add in the crap coverage, Ad breaks, and missed shots, and insessant analysis from Livingstone et al, and it all adds up to the one thing that I just don't use from my Sky package.

*shakes head*

I don't find any problems with the Sky Coverage myself. Just grateful for so much of it.

The yelling last night after every drive was annoying, but eventually I just ended up laughing at it, as it got ridiculous. I think it must have been the same guy following the group round. At one point he yelled "BOOMSHACKALACKA" and I laughed out loud. Must be annoying for the pros but I'm sure they zone it out.

Was nice to see my mate Paul Mac getting some air time this week. He's the most softly spoken Irishman ever.

You should try watching golf on TV in the US. You see three putts, then there is a advertorial piece where Ian Baker finch shows you how to hit a chip shot, sponsored by Taylor Made - the most played club on Tour, then there is a shot of the day sponsored by Cialis, then a picture of the skyline of San Diego/Atlanta/wherever followed by a leaderboard with bagpipe music, then off to the ads again. Repeat ad nauseum.

It really is TV for ADHD sufferers.

Bit drunk at Wentworth the other year, watching Westwood tee off on the 2nd or 3rd par 3, me and my mate shouted "In the hole" Westwood and about 100 other people truned round and gave us the look, so we went back to the bar.

Great quote

I struggled with the Accenture coverage. The ridiculous hollering by the crowd but also how poor they seemed to be at covering the play. There were only 2 matches on last night and suddenly Westwood was 2 down and we never saw his chip to the green and the rest of the hole. Irritating.

US TV golf coverage is utterly compromised by the obsession with showing Tiger. Any attempt to show a variety of players, shots types or different holes falls by the wayside if he is on the course.

Presumably they have audience research and viewing figures that say people love watching Tiger so it's a sensible commercial decision, but it does make it unsufferably dull sometimes.

I personally enjoy the Sky coverage of the US golf. This past week has been frustrating in only showing one half of each match (if even that), however the usual coverage is normally far better the dreary European tour offerings.

I have to disagree, the european tour events (especially those with a strong field like the desert swing events) are covered much better than most of the PGA Tour. The commentary teams, on course (wayne riley!) and coverage is evenly balanced. Great value!

That said, I like watching both. But Nick Faldo is the worst commentator ever!

i don't mind the coverage, the only part i find crap is whent hey bugger off for the 30 mins to 1 hr whilst they show a basketball game or the likes......the worst was when their coverage stopped for the night when the leaders had only played 9 holes....wtf!!!!!

and as for the usual tiger statement above.......try playing a different tune ffs!!!!

You may not like the statement about Tiger above Wull but it most definately is true. I was glad when he got knocked out on Thurs as we could see a few more players from Friday onwards. Did any one else notice who the only player to get interviewed after a loss was? I don't watch the week in week out US coverage when we have to suffer the US commentary teams, just the majors and WGC's when Sky usually have their own team or like last week form part of an international commentary team.

Have sky got the masters again? Their coverage was dreadful, I understand they are at the mercy of the us broadcasters but I eventually watched the last day at the masters on BBC last year.

I quite like the coverage of most tournaments to be fair but the matchplay in early rounds was poor.

They have, yes.

Puzzled as to why you thought it was dreadful though? The video feed sky showed was the same as the Beeb, wasn't it?

The OP asked for opinions about US golf coverage. Fact is they focus massively on Tiger. My issue is with the broadcaster, not the player, so think it's a fair point to make. Not Tiger bashing at all.

I love watching golf and for me, variety is key. Anything that prevents variety spoils my enjoyment. That's, you know, an opinion.

Agree, Agree, Agree, the ad breaks are the worse, I can accept the pathetic inane shouting, as I just remind myself that they are after all americans. Hopefully it won't migrate over here.

I dont hate it Macster. The US coverage and commentary isnt great, but i'd much rather be watching the WGC Accenture Matchplay thanthe pish that was on the BBC & ITV (although homeland at 9 on ch4 was quite good).

Really ??

To go a bit further, I prefer the format of it. The studio guests (Andrew Coltart aside), the features.

OK ideally I would like more golf, but I'd still take the evening American shows over the hours of constant droaning from Bruce Critchley about 'remarkably average' shots. Maybe I have a slight vendetta against his perpetual negativity, but it seems that Poulter would seem to agree.

The only redeeming feature of the European coverage is Radar... and they leave him out when the rest of the team goes to the USA.

So there's a lot of Tiger on the US coverage, so what? There's a lot of coverage of Man Utd on Sky as well.

Can't really blame Sky for the quality of their US golf coverage as they take their feed from the host broadcaster, so I don't think they make too bad a job of it given the rubbish they have to work with. If there are any problems then it's with the commentary team of Murray and Critchley, who I find tedious. Think Livingstone is pretty good, but seems to be a bit up himself. Really like their European Tour coverage, and in terms of pundits, really like Lee, Riley and Coltart. McGinley was also very good during his Accenture stint, as is Howell whenever he is in the studio.
