No place for David Law, 2009 + 2011 Scottish Matchplay Champion and ranked 120 places higher than Northern Irelands Alan Dunbar in the amateur rankings.

Law who regularly plays Royal Aberdeen, won the Scottish Boys round Royal Aberdeen and has had a pretty decent season has been given a swift kick in the chuckies I fear! Law also has a far superior Matchplay record when compared with Dunbar, very very strange decision, one that stinks of favouritism! Terrible terrible terrible decision!

Anyway good luck when the match kicks off, hopefully it won't come back to haunt the selectors as I believe that they've picked an weaker side when it could have been stronger.

Agree it was a strange decision if it wasn't favouritisum I would like to know what they were thinking and how they justify it.

My Cousin is a caddie and he was at the recent meet that the elite squad had at Royal Aberdeen before the Team was picked and i believe Law was not even selected for this.

He has however missed the cut at the Amateur Championship, Scottish Amateur, Links Trophy and Brit Am, possibly the 4 biggest events on the seasonal calander. Since he won at the Northern Amateur Open in South Africa earlier this season he has had a pretty misreable time. This is maybe the reason he was not selected.

In his defence, the Craw does state that he does have an excellent matchplay record and it would appear that this is the exact reason why James Byrne (who Law is ranked almost 20 places higher than)has been selected. Byrne's good matchplay results came in the Scottish Mens Amateur Championship and the Amateur championship where qualifying is in strokeplay format. Alan Dunbar has also enjoyed some success in strokeplay events this year.

It would seem that the selecotrs may be putting some weight behind strokeplay results which does seem a bit bizzare for the Walker cup team

A total joke Craw and I nearly started a thread last week re this.

Law had a slow start to the season but in the last 2 months has played great winning the Scottish in the process.

Dunbar latterly has not played great but it appears the team was pre picked a while back.As in a lot of amateur golf it appears it is a case of a face fitting.

That said, there are those who are saying Law as the local kid should have got the gig but you never know the pressure that comes with that may have had an adverse effect.

Only time will tell if it is the beat choice. It'll be tough but here is hoping we can win with the team we have.

it appears the team was pre picked a while back.

Would agree with this. If it had been picked 1-2 months ago Law would have no complaint..

It would appear that if you were not in the elite training squad that was picked a few months ago, you had no chance of getting picked no matter what you have done since.

Would like to see the outcry if someone won the last 2 tournaments before the ryder cup and was not selected as a wild card

Damned if they do damned if they don't:eek:, I think if Law had performed better in the 4 biggest events instead of missing the cuts it might have been a different decision, they've made a decision based on whatever information they have, I'm pretty sure they knew it would be unpopular and maybe against some public opinion but someone HAS to make decisions.
If he was chosen and failed miserably then no doubt many would say he's had a miserable time in the last 4 biggies etc etc and shouldn't have been picked blah blah blah

If you don't pick your strongest side against a side of the caliber that the USA side currently has then I think your asking for trouble.
Byrne you can see why he was picked but to omit Law while stating Byrne was brought in due to his matchplay record is madness. I believe Law and the SGU don't always see eye to eye, only a rumor I've heard so don't know if that's true however it would also back up the other rumor that it was the SGU that chopped Laws legs and that Dunbar was always a pick.

Love rumours!

ignore the rumours, theres not one shred of evidence or fact behind them

They HAVE picked their best side............in their opinion....but like I said already someone has to do it and it's a thankless task......just like a football manager or any manager come to think of it.

I will disagree, its quite clearly not the strongest side.

Favouritism and face fitting has played a major role in selecting a player over 120 ranking positions below a clearly better player.

I will disagree, its quite clearly not the strongest side.

....in YOUR opinion........
I'm not saying its the strongest or not the strongest....

clearly your opinion and mine dont matter as they made their decision themselves........as thats their job.

Didnt I read somewhere he's 1st reserve?

Darren Clarke over looked by Faldo think he won the 2 before the team was selected and if not he won 1 and went very close in the other.

Think Clarke won 2 weeks before and just made the cut the week before. It did cause quite a bit of controversy at the time though

I don't know the guys you are talking about but was just wondering if one was picked, not because he was a better matchplayer but he was a better team player.

The reason I suggest this is because I know a guy down here who was 17 and off +3 and didnt get picked for anything.
The reason being he was a stroppy git and treated the rest of the players as if they were something he had just stood in. Certainly not a team player.

As said it's faces that fit.

No rumour...FACT.

LOL how can it be a fact when you already said it was a rumour?

The only fact is that its a Rumour :p

bored now, going round in circles

Please point out where I said it was a rumour.

I said no rumour...FACT - i.e. it's a fact he wasn't picked as his face did not fit and that comes from a man in the know (not me by the way).
