would also look at BMW x3 - the previous model is 2+ years old now and a very nice car
Is the Karoc not the Skoda version? The Kodiaq is a big chap, closer to a Toureg in size. They may be on the same platform, I don't know enough about that, but in comparison terms I would have put the Karoc with them.
Both are very nice, Skoda have done a great job with them.

I was looking at either a one year old Kodiaq or Superb estate to replace my Octavia, but got a far better deal on a BMW 520 TOURING.
Looks like VW have phased out the Toureg, so i'd imaine Skoda might do the same?
the other consideration for me is service, out local VW is in an idependant where as most of the others in Sneck are a well known scottish dealer who, shall we say are renound for short cuts and corner cutting
Having a decent servicing garage nearby is definitely a factor to consider. One of the reasons I moved away from Volvo is that the dealer in the NE is awful. The Tiguan is a smashing car, a nice play to be in. The Toureg starts at £46k, the Kodiaq £25. Similar size, very different target market and pricing. I would imagine the Toureg suffers against Audi Q5 and X3. No wonder it is being phased out then.

The Tiguan R line is a lovely looking car, but for us as a family the boot space was too small, that is one of our main considerations when buying a car.
Ive just got rid of the Touerag, but seriously great machine, effortless driving, highly recommended.
Your Passat probably has bigger boot space than Tiguan?

Its grim on the car front, I flew down to Birmingham then train to Coventry (20mins) and picked up my last car, 7 hours home with a couple of stops.
yes it does Brian, but with just the one dog, who doesn't like the car anyway, its a bit of a waste having an est again. were were thinking of something smaller that still allowed us to have the seats down if needed and was a comfort ride

I assumed they would be based on the same, good to hear the Skoda is the biggest, size is everything in my world!

the skoda has 2 smaller ones - one at least is on the smaller platform. I think the others from the three brands are all on the same one but they can vary the size. It is not the same as the tourag, which is shared with Porsche Cayenne and Q5

smart move - you get massive depreciatiion on traditional saloons and estates - i have seen email from the likes of Drive the Deal with 30% to 35% off new on things like A6s

Be careful buying Skoda etc if you are interested in the 150hp engine size.....lots of problems (hesitation when starting) in the past few years. I was looking at a Karoq, but after a good long look and reading lots of issues (not just with the Skoda) went with a Suzuki Vitara. Good choice so far.....golf bag in sideways....pretty cheap. If you want more comfort.....then the Tiguan is a bit bigger and nicer. Anything bigger than the Vitara is WAY too big for me. I only put about 6k a year on the car.....don't need fancy for that.

One other thing to consider if buying VAG cars. Although the service schedule is set by the onboard computer, it is normally around the 10,000 miles/ 1 year mark, where as BMW is around 20k/ 2 years.

My BiL bought a new Karoq and had endless electrical faults with it, he gave up on it after a year.
I'm on my second VAG diesel and the service intervals have always been around the 18k mark. It's variable so it is dependent on driving style and journeys. I do 20k per year.
Is the 10k service a petrol related one?
It's a tried and tested engine across Europe in the VAG group. If you sell as many as they do it isn't surprising that there is some online grumpiness, it is what happens on forums. The percentage compared to happy punters will be very small though. I have this engine in a Superb. No problems, no hesitation. 60k miles so far.

No. Diesel. In particular the 2 litre and 1.6. Probably more related to time than distance as I only do around 10k miles a year now.

All the VAG share the same engines, with minor tweeks and different badges on the engine cover. VAG have problems with the timing chains in the petrol engines, and across the board they have reduced wiring diameter to reduce costs. My Transporter windscreen was cracked after 3 months. I thought it was becuase it has an element in it, but according to the windscreen bods it's because VW has reduced the glass thickness to reduce weight and costs and as a result they are cracking at the slightest thing.
