I had this mad idea last night.

We all know the format "bogey" (matchplay against the "card"), could this be used for a virtual competition between GMFUs?

What I was contemplating (I'll happily go back into rehab, if I've slipped back to insanity) was calling for players to put their names into a hat to be drawn at random to play one another a la knockout comp', except against our home courses.

We pick a period of time (a two week slot, say) in which to go around your local track playing against the card. You'd need someone "real" to keep a genuine score (wouldn't stop you playing a bounce game alongside).

Then, as an example, player A has drawn player H.
Player A has ended up 2 down, player H 1 up, so he goes. through. If you lose the round, you bin the card. If you go through you keep the card. Work down from 32-16-8-4 etc. until you have the GM virtual champion. One round, one month per round (in a two week slot, say) = 6 months.

Difficult to explain, but could work???

me niether, but i kinda get the gist. I suppose it will count on good integrity to work though wont it.

So if say, my home course was par 71 and i went round in say 81( for a round number) i am 10 over.

I get drawn against you dave, your course is a 72 and you go round in 81 also, that means your one up on me, you go through and i go out?

Bogey is simply match-play against the course. You take your stokes where allowed by the stoke indices on the card. You don't have to complete the round if you don't want to. If you're 3 up on the course with only 2 holes left to play, then you have won the game already, so you can walk off at the 16th. Equally so, if you're 3 down with 2 to play, then you've lost.

I like the idea. It's not difficult to understand and it will certainly work. Put me in the draw from March.

yeah i think the next time i play (hopefully saturday) i will check the score card afterwards to see in bogey format, how i get on.

Hey guys......you didn't totaly write it off?!

I was thinking either full h'cap or 7/8. It could be played using stableford also. I considered proposing it on medal cards, but that's a bit, well, dull I think.

If we ran one round per month and specified the first two or last two weeks, I guess it might be acceptable to put the best card forward.

In essence, I have a wanted to find a good way forward with a virtual competition. If folks signed up, I did the grid and asked for "returns" we'd go from as many as want to to round 2 and so on. If we had 32 say and someone didn't have the time to play, we could offer a "bye" (is that the spelling).

I think it would be a bit luke-warm until we are left with only 8 players, then I reckon it could get interesting.

As off the wall as it sounds, we would end up with a champion golfer for 2008. We'd take our chances with random selections, for example one player might lose by being 1 up to a guy who was 2 up, but someone who came in 4 down might go through to someone 6 down.

I think this is just what the forum needs right now, Especially as everyone is getting on well and a sense of community is creeping in. This would give the place a bit of umph, more to talk about and probably get us playing more competitivly. What about ppl with no official handicaps though? ( i know, theres always one )

one way for those with no handicap would be to register with one of the online sites, you send in signed cards and receive your handicap from them. I believe some are 'affiliated' to the ega. My mate (a nomad) has done this for years.

the other way (and I am not volunteering for this as I have no idea how to do it) might be for a brave (foolhardy?) member of the forum to run a GMfuGS virtual handicap strictly for this 'event'.

I had this mad idea last night.

Not mad at all RGUK. A great idea in my book and well done.

The devil is deeply in the detail of this one though.

Be interesting to see how it shapes up

Due to being on the disabled list and the fact my course is closed does it count if I hand in a card from Tiger Woods 08 on the Xbox 360?

only if you use the wireless plastic golf club and full dress kit?
