anyone had the external solar blinds fitted.

With temps >40C in the loft conversion over the weekend we're looking at options.

Sorry, not what you're asking but we do have manual, internal heat reflective blinds in the Velux windows of our large spare room that's built directly under a tiled roof. They are very effective. Forget to close them and it's like a greenhouse. Remember to close them and it's no warmer than the rest of the house.
No experience of Velux solar but MiL's old house had the battery operated remote control ones. I only had to change the batteries twice in the 20 years that it was down to me to do such things.

What was the temperature like before you converted?
Our loft has no windows and it's unbearable in summer. Might not just be the windows that's the problem but the expanse of tiled roof directly overhead. FiL and his wife converted their loft and put in dormer windows. After one summer they had to install an air conditioner.

Another option is solar panels. Reflect heat to keep the roof cooler and obviously generate power in the process.

We have third party black out blinds fitted to all our Velux windows in the bedrooms of our loft conversion, work very well, just keep them closed during really hot days, easy to diy order and fit as well.
