I have the above car which is almost 4 years' old, 28,000 miles and the key snapped in the ignition.

I phoned Vauxhall Customer Care, also written to The Chief Executive, explaining it is a casting problem and the goods are not fit for purpose. The cost to replace a key is over £160.

Additionally I was told over the phone that the key was covered for 4 years which I though strange as the warranty is only for 3. Vauxhall only tape 10 % of phone calls and mine was not one of them. There is an Ombusdman who I am considering writing to.

There has not been excessive wear and any thought on what to do next would be appreciated.

The Kia keys were the same, a 2year old company car with a 7 year warranty but keys were only covered for 1year. After both broke in the same place I kicked off and got both replaced with a full valet for the hassle

Kia later that week issued a memo to say all keys covered for the period of the warranty do it was obviously a fault

Vauxhall are pulling your trousers down they are charging you for a complete key and coding, you only need the blade and to be cut which any car locksmith will do in seconds for you.

Speak to a local automotive locksmith and get them to cut and supply a new blade to the current fob
You will see a small pin where the blade of the key comes out.
