Right or just plain wrong??

Me? As long as they are being used as you walk and are not holding anyone up I do not have an issue with phones being used but I know that plenty clubs prohibit use on the course as well as in the clubhouse etc.

If i am honest it annoys me if someone takes a call on the course - texting or whatever as you walk between shots I have no problem with.

I always try to watch every shot being played by my playing partners in case I have to help look for it, and I expect the same thing when I play. If everyone was tweeting or texting when I was playing, it would quickly hack me off.

I don't agree with making or receiving phone calls whilst on the course. I take my phone in my golf bag and have it on silent. That way, I can check for business messages and e-mails without shattering the peace and tranquility for other course users. Texting is fine, though, as long as it doesn't hold up proceedings. :)

Checking for missed calls, emails or messages... fair enough as long as you're on the move or waiting any way. Taking/making non-urgent calls... no, and disrespectful to playing partners.

Plain wrong for me mate not necessary.. BUT BUT before everyone jumps on me , phones switched on , on silent , are no problem , in extensuating (sp) circumstances where there may be a need for someone to be contacted urgently i wouldnt mind them on . then again if theres a chance you might be needed urgently , why you on the golf course ?

Agree with this +

I have a very young son and a pregnant missus at the moment so I will make a call or two on the course to make sure everything is alright... particularly if things go quiet for whatever reason. I make them quickly and away from play as I do it while walking between shots.

Besides that in these days of fast paced business decisions and working remotely many people have to take important calls in the middle of rounds. I have no problem with it as long as it's not loud and disruptive. Phone on silent. Quick to the point conversations... it's hardly a problem.

exactly, personally i dont even take my phone on the course.

It winds me up one of old regular playing partners always has his on the course constantly uses it and doesn't have it in silent. Next June we are on a golfing wknd for my stag trip and there will be a fine system in place for various things and a ringing phone will cost! I always take mine but on silent and check it normally midway or walking from 13th to 14th as its a long walk

if i NEED to use my phone to make a call i will, it wont be on the tee, green, whilst someone is taking a shot though. i leave my phone on vibrate in my back left pocket. if i get re-called to work, i can answer immediately and get off the course sharpish! would rather I answer a call on the course than get the mod police knocking at my door!

The 1st part of this i have no problem with at all jonny.. the 2nd part (fast paced business) i dont buy into this mate this is bull in my opinion , very few of us are that important , SURGEONS or equivelent grand , business ? if you havent the time you shouldnt be playing thats my opinion . if you were in hospital or on your death bed the business world would survive a while ,

Yes, agree with the majority, in the bag on silent, always use discretely if I really have too, but just make sure it does not effect my playing partners or anyone else on the course!

for me they shouldn't be on the course, i've played with people texting all the way round and it does my head in. at my club they're banned on the course and in the clubhouse, i don't see the problem in using them in the clubhouse myself

Not me personally... the chance of getting a midweek round is rare. But the guys I play with do run their own businesses. If they don't respond to calls they often miss the work as people pick up the phone to someone else. And these days you can't afford to miss a bit of work as the economic situation is not the best it's ever been.

I seem to remember our Pro saying that every group should have a phone (turned off) so that they could phone the clubhouse in case of emergency. I have told my regular partners that if they are not fit to continue playing I am leaving them behind.:)
