Looks like Sports Direct are jumping on the back of DC's win and launching "premier" clothing next month. £40 for a shirt and £50 for trousers????
Now...I have 3 Dunlop tops but not paid more then £8 for them...nor would I...still they need to get back the £2 mil they paid out.. ;)

Why would anyone in their right mind pay £40 for a shirt with Dunlop on when they could get 2 shirts with Adidas on for the same price :D :D

No chance, have a few Dunlop wind cheaters and at £6 each or thereabouts they are a bargin - but don't think I could bring myself to wear teh D and pay more than £10 for their stuff.

You can get the the stuff in the Lee Westwood range for about £20 a shirt and they're pretty decent quality. I'd never pay £40 for a dunlop shirt though. I could get an Under Armour one for that price (with change) or as John said, 2 Adidas/Nike/other shirts.

Can't beat the Greg Norman ones for me though.

A Darren Clarke Dunlop range?

Well if it's going to be completely authentic, it'll be Peter Millar clothing with Ds stitched on...

A £2 million bonus and he doesn't even have to wear their gear... nice work if you can get it.

Dunlop used to be right up there, Id dare say that this is their aim again. They arnt getting Clarkey and Westmood to wear them for the good of their health.

They aren't getting Clarkey and Westwood to wear them full stop. Just promote the logos.

Sports Direct's modus operandi is to buy up formerly respected brands, such as Dunlop, Slazenger, Karrimor, and use any remaining public trust in those names to flog gear.

They have totally trashed Lillywhites in London since they bought it. What used to be one of the great, historic stores now resembles a dayglo jumble sale. Shame.

I believe Westy wears Dunlop shirts, but I know Daz does not.

And I agree with you re: Lillywhites. Deperessing to see the state it's in now.

Went to lillywhites last year for the first time in years (during a weekend break ) and have to admit I was both appalled and saddened

Interesting comments about Dunlop.

My perception of Dunlop is different and this is because I am a pretty good and very keen squash player. In the squash world, Dunlop are the equivalent of Mizuno or Titleist in golf.

They have the world number 1 and 2 in Nick Matthew and Amr Shabana as their main tour pros and make some of the best rackets in the sport.

Consequently, I have a high opinion of Dunlop in general and would much rather wear a Dunlop shirt than anything by Adidas or Nike. As for under armour, that just sounds ridiculous and I would not wear it if it was given to me. It sounds like medevil knickers for girls.

Lastly - stevie r - are you ever not appalled and saddened?? :D :D

Good point. I used to play squash alot when I was younger (wish I still did to be honest), Wilson make decent squash stuff too. My favourite ever reacket was the Wilson I used to own.

The fact of the matter is, the "cheap" dunlop stuff in Sports Direct is awful stuff - you can tell, just by looking at it. But the "Lee Westwood" range is great quality. Feels alot better than the Adidas shirts I've seen, but I would not pay £40 for one.

Me too re Lillywhites, was down in London a few years ago and due to play in a cricket match on the sunday. I needed some spikes so my mate and I trotted across there as it was the only place we could think of that would have some. What a shock, the only cricket stuff they had was 3 year old Pakistan odi shirts, nothing else.

I remember my dad taking me to get my fist proper bat and pads from there and they had a whole floor devoted to cricket back then.

Now just like a downmarket JD sports jumble...

always appalled by trolley haters :D

I'm happy to wear Dunlop but would struggle to pay £40 for it. But then I wouldn't like to part with £40 for any shirt. If it added 50 yards to a drive and made them straight then maybe I'd consider it but until then I'll stay a cheapskate. I'll pay for important things like shoes, clubs etc but everything else is just gravy.

I'd love to see Dunlop climb back out of the bargain bin though. Am I the only interested to see the new range? The new gloves with geckotak sound interesting.

Totally agree. They use to have a whole floor dedicated to golf with a PGA pro in store for lessons. Now its a bit of old tat in the corner somewhere
